I’m extremely honored to have the opportunity to work with such prestigious companies, organizations, and individuals supporting the important work they do. A lot of people wonder how a woman came to run a business selling and modifying shipping containers. I moved to Hawaii from the East Coast in my early 20’s. I was offered a job as Systems Integrations Manager with Anderson Consulting upon graduating from the College of William and Mary. But it only took one day for me to realize I didn’t want to live in Washington. After a year of traveling, I ended up in Hawaii and—a story familiar to many—fell in love with the islands and knew I had found my home. After briefly working as an assistant in a law firm, I eventually became production manager for a video production company. I enjoyed the challenge and excelled in making sure all the pieces of each production came together within budget and on time. Many years later, a friend unfortunately developed cancer and asked me to help run his business, Affordable Portable Housing. I was surprised because his business specialized in building shipping container offices and homes and I didn’t have any construction experience. He told me he already worked with top rate builders and that he needed me because of my meticulous attention to detail, project management experience, and determination to get things done exceeding expectations. Part of what attracted me to the shipping container modification business is the sustainability of shipping containers and how we can repurpose shipping containers to reduce the carbon footprint of construction projects. It was incredibly sad when my friend eventually left this world, but I feel proud to be able to carry on the legacy he’d spent 14 years building. I established my own company using the same suppliers and builders my former business partner had worked with for over a decade to ensure I continued to provide the highest quality product. I’ve now lived in Hawaii for over 25 years. I am an avid kitesurfer and love to hike and swim. The ocean brings me peace and happiness. A vegetarian and environmentalist, I find great purpose in my work and appreciate playing a small part in the effort to build a better global future. I look forward to working with you and doing my absolute best to exceed your expectations. With warm aloha,
Allison
