Palisades Amusement Park used to be one of the most famous entertainment destinations in America.

Millions of people from New Jersey and New York visited every summer, making it one of the busiest amusement parks in the country during its peak years

It opened in 1898 atop the cliffs overlooking the Hudson River in Fort Lee, the park became legendary for its giant roller coasters, massive saltwater pool, carnival lights, and live performances from major music acts.

Palisades was known for attractions like the Cyclone roller coaster and its enormous outdoor pool, once considered the largest saltwater pool in the world.

The park also became a huge concert destination in the rock-and-roll era, hosting artists like The Supremes, The Beach Boys, and Chubby Checker.

After decades of operation, rising land values and suburban development pressures eventually sealed the park’s fate.

Palisades Amusement Park closed in 1971 and was later demolished for high-rise apartments
