Another great and successful spring for the John Anderson Memorial Net Pen.

Today we got our king salmon fingerlings for the net pen. This year we received right around 32,000 king salmon. The fish will stay in the pen for up to 3 weeks depending on water conditions. They’re fed and monitored twice a day. To ensure the health and safety.

Cant wait to see these guys return in 4 years!!!!!!

Today we launched our net pen in the Kenosha harbor for the 5th year. We want to thank Carlson Racine Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc. crane operator Corey Bloemers, Visit Kenosha, and the WIDNR for helping out and making this all possible.

April 15th we will be getting around 30,000 king salmon fingerlings from the WIDNR. Should be late morning to early afternoon but time is to be determined. Stop on by and check it out. 🎣

What is a net pen?
A net pen is basically a cage that is put in the water that will contain the chinook salmon for up to 3 weeks. The idea behind this is to stop all day one bird predation, help grow the salmon as we feed them twice a day till they’re released, and help them imprint on the scent of the harbor so they return to the kenosha harbor in 4 years during there spawning cycle.

Which in return helps create great public fishing opportunities both in a boat and from shore as well!
