DID YOU KNOW??? Connecticut has joined the ranks of New Mexico, Oregon, Kentucky, and New York and effective in January 2023, Connecticut will now be charging Motor Carriers a "Highway Use Fee". This will require Motor Carriers that have a GVW of 26,000 # or more to pay a fee for every mile traveled in Connecticut for the privilege of operating on Connecticut Highways.
Any carrier that operates an eligible motor vehicle in Connecticut must register with the DRS for the Highway Use Fee by January 1, 2023. After registering, a Highway Use Fee Permit will be available in the myconneCT (DRS online filing portal). This will have to be filed monthly. There is currently not a fee for the permit itself. The permit must be carried in each eligible motor vehicle operating in Connecticut.
Any person who knowingly violates any provision of the Conn.Gen.Stat. 12-493a will be subject to a fine of $1000.00.
