🗄️ 8. Keep Drawers Intact for Extra Storage
If a dresser is sturdy and the drawers don't make it too heavy to lift safely, leave the clothes inside them! Wrap the entire piece of furniture tightly in plastic stretch wrap to lock the drawers in place. You instantly save box space, and you don't have to unpack or pack a single shirt.
Pro Moving Tip for the Crew: If a dresser is way too heavy with the drawers in, pull the drawers out before lifting the frame into the truck, and then slide the drawers back into the dresser once the frame is safely locked against the wall tie-downs. It saves your back and optimizes your truck space!

🍽️ 7. Pack Plates Vertically, Like Vinyl Records
Most people stack plates flat on top of each other, but any downward force on the box will snap the bottom plate. Always wrap plates in paper or bubble wrap and pack them edge-up (vertically) like records in a crate. They can absorb significantly more structural pressure standing up than lying flat.

🎨 6. Color-Code by Room, Not by Item
Instead of writing long lists on top of every box with a Sharpie, use colored duct tape or bright stickers to color-code by room (e.g., Red for Kitchen, Blue for Master Bedroom, Green for Living Room). Put a matching piece of tape on the doorframe of the new house. That way, your movers know exactly where every single box goes at a single glance without stopping to read the cardboard.

🧱 5. The "Russian Doll" Packing Strategy
Never pack empty spaces. Nest smaller items inside larger ones to maximize your space and stabilize your boxes. Put spices inside large stockpots, wrap socks around glassware, and pack towels or blankets around fragile items to serve as free, shock-absorbing padding.

Save your cardboard boxes for lighter, bulkier items. Pack heavy things like books, tools, or weight plates into rolling suitcases. Cardboard boxes can rip under that kind of weight, but a suitcase is literally built to hold heavy loads and rolls right across the floor with zero strain.

🔌 3. Take Pictures of the Back of Your Electronics
Before pulling a single cord out of the TV, Wi-Fi router, or gaming system, snap a quick photo of the back of the inputs on your phone. Trying to remember where the blue, HDMI, and optical cords go three days later is a massive headache—the photo gives you an instant blueprint.
