What does it take to stay sharp in aviation? A willingness to keep learning. ✈️

Meet Brandon Welch, a maintenance apprentice here at Kubick Aviation Services.

Brandon is a military veteran currently building his on-the-job training hours as he works toward earning his Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification.

Last week, he headed back to the classroom for two courses through the Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA), covering basic wiring and avionics installation, followed by pitot-static and transponder testing and troubleshooting.

The training included classroom instruction and hands-on learning focused on the technical skills technicians use when working with aircraft systems.

Brandon came back with overwhelmingly positive feedback, and we're excited to see him continue building on that experience!

We're also grateful for organizations like AEA that are dedicated to advancing education throughout the aviation industry. This was a valuable opportunity for Brandon, and we look forward to sending more of our technicians in the future.

The screens light up. The installation looks complete. So, are we ready to fly? ✈️

Not quite yet.

Once new avionics equipment is installed, there's still important work to be done before an aircraft can be returned to service.

Ground testing helps technicians verify that the equipment is configured correctly, connected systems are communicating, and applicable functions are operating as intended.

Depending on the installation, that might mean checking navigation and communication equipment, confirming data is displayed correctly, verifying system interfaces, or troubleshooting unexpected behavior.

And when something doesn't work as expected? It's time to investigate, make adjustments, and test again.

The exact testing process varies by aircraft and equipment, and additional inspections, checks, or flight testing may be required before an aircraft is approved for return to service.

It's another example of the work happening behind the panel that aircraft owners may never see.

It all started with an empty hangar and an opportunity from a friend. ✈️

After years of working in aviation, Chad Kubick found himself at a crossroads when the company he worked for closed its doors.

A friend offered him the use of an empty hangar to start something of his own. So, while continuing to work on aircraft, Chad rolled up his sleeves and got to work building the business. Literally installing the electrical systems, heat, and other improvements needed to make that first hangar functional.

Fast forward through years of hard work, new facilities, expanded services, and a whole lot of aircraft, and that small operation has grown into Kubick Aviation Services as we know it today.

Multiple aviation operations.
Approximately 40 employees.
And a reputation we're incredibly proud to stand behind.

Through all that growth, a few things have remained constant: our commitment to quality workmanship, accountability, and doing right by the people who trust us with their aircraft.

As Chad puts it, when we put our name on something, we stand behind it. And if something isn't right, we make it right.

There’s nothing quite like getting a room, and a hangar, full of people who know and love the Conquest 441. ✈️

Last week, Chad had the opportunity to speak at the Conquest 441 Community Fly-In in Joplin, Missouri.

The two-day event brought Conquest owners, operators, and aviation professionals together to talk maintenance, avionics, engine planning, training, operations, and plenty more... all centered around an aircraft this community knows well.

We always appreciate the opportunity to share what we know, learn from others in the industry, talk airplanes, and spend time with the people flying and maintaining them every day.

Thanks to the team behind the Conquest 441 Community Fly-In for bringing everyone together, and to everyone who stopped to talk with Chad and the Kubick team while we were there.

From there, make two lists.

AI is officially making its way into U.S. air traffic management.

This week, the FAA began rolling out SMART, a new system that uses predictive analytics and AI to analyze things like flight paths, weather, traffic flow and system capacity.

The important distinction: AI isn’t replacing air traffic controllers.

The technology is being used to help human decision-makers spot potential congestion and disruptions earlier and make more informed decisions about the airspace.

That raises an interesting question for the aviation community:

As AI becomes more integrated into aviation, where do you see it adding real value, and where should human judgment always remain in the loop?
