🔋ICYMI: Last week, nearly 150 labor, civic, and economic development leaders gathered at SUNY New Paltz for the first Hudson Valley Energy Storage Summit to explore how battery storage can strengthen grid reliability, help lower energy costs, and support good-paying jobs.

This was the first-ever Hudson Valley Energy Storage Summit, and it underlined the importance of strong safety standards and community engagement as New York advances its goal of 6,000 MW of energy storage by 2030. Expanding storage capacity is key to building a more reliable, affordable grid.

⚡ Today is Energy Efficiency Day!

Energy efficiency helps us use less energy and waste less of it. It can lower energy bills and make our homes more comfortable. It also helps reduce pollution.

In New York, buildings make up about one-third of the state’s greenhouse gas emissions. This means making our homes and buildings more efficient is an important part of building a cleaner energy future.

Proper weatherization and insulation in your home or apartment can help you use less energy. Efficient electric heat pumps can heat and cool our homes without burning harmful fossil fuels, and modern induction cooktops are a healthier alternative to the gas-emitting ones. There are tons of ways New Yorkers can make improvements, and you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

NYCP’s free Clean Energy Coaches can help answer your questions about home energy audits, energy-saving upgrades, heat pumps, solar, EVs, and more. They can help you with an energy audit and help you figure out what incentives are available to you and which improvements make the most sense for your situation.

📣 Happening today at 5 PM!

As climate disasters grow more extreme, the climate crisis is less frequently mentioned by the media and politicians. As a result, climate action suffers.

Join Climate Can’t Wait for a special conversation on “climate hushing” and how we talk about the climate crisis. They are opening their regular meeting to climate activists and members of their member organizations.

🎤 Speakers:
Genevieve Guenther, author of The Language of Climate Politics
Kyle Pope, Co-Founder of Covering Climate Now

They’ll dig into what’s behind the decline in climate coverage, why the language we use matters, and what it means for climate action.

ICYMI: Last week at Climate Week NYC, we brought together New York leaders and clean energy experts to discuss how climate action delivers affordability for New Yorkers across the state.

Our speakers highlighted solutions already making a difference, our largest build-out of solar energy this past summer (saving New Yorkers about $200 million on their energy costs), and shared announcements of new clean energy projects being permitted. They underlined how investments in renewable energy, storage, and more energy efficient buildings can deliver cleaner air, good jobs, and a more reliable energy system.

New York needs to keep that progress moving by implementing cap-and-invest and funding the Sustainable Future Program, so more communities can share in the benefits.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Climate Week NYC 2026, whether in-person or virtually!

Here at New Yorkers for Clean Power, every week is climate week! Sign up for our weekly newsletter for updates and events to plug into New York's clean energy transition. ⚡

A new report takes a closer look at how misinformation about solar energy development in New York is spreading online and digs into what the data, farmers, and experts say about solar and farmland in NYS.

"...“The biggest threat to farmland, in my opinion, is not solar. It’s farms going bankrupt and going out of business. It’s real estate development; it’s suburban development,” said Rebekah Pierce, who operates J&R Pierce Family Farm in Clinton County, which grazes sheep on solar projects..."

"...Small, independent farms in New York are vanishing at a higher rate than the national average, according to Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s office. Between 2024 and 2025, the state lost 500 farms and 100,000 acres of farmland, according to federal data. Eighty percent of those were farms with under $100,000 in revenue..."
