All too often many new parents deprioritize working out.

Whether it be guilt, new responsibilities, or the fact that you're functioning on very little sleep most days, working out tends to end up last on our never-ending list of tasks.

Let's be honest... it can be TOUGH to get anything done with a mini human running around causing chaos 😅

Although I don’t train for hours on end like I used to, I make sure to workout efficiently and effectively when I do... just enough to maintain a healthy level of fitness.

My workouts are often short, performing push ups, pull ups, and other bodyweight exercise while playing with my daughter in between sets.

Fitness doesn’t need to be complicated, just stick to the basics 💪🏽

Some tuck front lever pulls with my girl, just because I haven’t been posting doesn’t mean I haven’t been training. Slowly starting to dial it in. I’d like to believe I can get back to where I was I was 😅. Might be wishful thinking but my body feels healthy and great 💪🏽

Yes I used to teach weekend workshops… but did you know they were originally designed to enhance the knowledge of someone who has already taken a formal personal training course and not to certify anyone as a professional coach?

The truth is after over a decade of training others with Calisthenics AND educating trainers on how to do so … I’ve come to the conclusion that a weekend workshop just DOES NOT CUT IT when it comes to a formal calisthenics coaching education.

It is for that exact reason that I have designed .calisthenics, the most comprehensive training when it comes to not only understanding the What and How of Calisthenics, but also the Why, When, and Where.

Plank

🚫Avoid this Plank variation🚫

There is a plank variation within the calisthenics community which calls for flexion in the upper spine (thoracic). There are 3 main reasons you should avoid this variation.

1. The plank is a stabilization exercise meant to stabilize the spine, scapulae, and hips in neural positions to create balance and structural integrity. Flexing the thoracic will only pull the body out of balance, counteracting the intention of the movement.
2. This will NOT help with Planche. The prime mover for the Planche is the front deltoid. Flexing the upper spine will not increase the strength of either the prime mover or the assisting muscles.
3. This variation can lead to or reinforce bad posture and muscle disfunction. Those with rounded shoulder and a protruding head are especially cautioned against this variation as it will only reinforce the imbalances of the body.

Not all planks are created equal nor do they serve the same purpose.

The Standard Plank is a core stabilization exercise focused on building core strength alone.

The Extended Plank incorporates the Lats and Teres Major making this movement, both strengthening the Back muscles and core.

The Superman Plank places much of the load on the Lats and Triceps with the core taking a supportive role much like it does in the push up.

If you’re lacking pull exercises or don’t have a pull-up bar this Superman plank is a must!!!
