๐ŸŒŸ Celebrating Black Music Month and honoring the incredible legacy of Little Esther Phillips! ๐ŸŽคโœจ Born Esther Mae Washington in Galveston, Texas, she was a powerhouse vocalist who made waves in R&B, blues, jazz, soul, and even country music.

At just 14, she took the music world by storm with her #1 hit "Double Crossing Blues," and her talent only grew from there. Despite facing challenges, Esther reinvented herself in the 1960s and produced timeless classics like "Release Me."

With four Grammy nominations and unforgettable performancesโ€”including a special appearance with The Beatlesโ€”Esther's influence continues to resonate today. Let's celebrate her remarkable journey and the impact she had on music! ๐ŸŽถโค๏ธ

๐ŸŽถโœจ Celebrating Black Music Month with a spotlight on the incredible Izola Ethel Fedford Collins! ๐ŸŒŸ Born in Galveston, Texas, Mrs. Collins was not only a talented musician and educator but also a dedicated historian and civic leader.

From organizing school bands to serving as an award-winning choir instructor, her contributions to music education shaped the lives of many. She made history as one of the first African Americans elected at-large to the Galveston ISD Board of Trustees, advocating for the preservation of African American history and culture in our community.

Mrs. Collinsโ€™s passion for music went beyond the classroom; she was a respected voice in Galveston's classical music scene, supporting local organizations like the Galveston Symphony Orchestra and enriching the cityโ€™s artistic identity. ๐ŸŽผโค๏ธ

Join us in honoring her legacy and commitment to uplifting Black voices in music and history!
