I’ve always been real with you guys, and today I’m wearing my heart on my sleeve a little and sharing one of the harder parts of being a travel planner.❤️
Sometimes I’ll be scrolling through social media and see someone enjoying a vacation that I spent time helping them plan and quote. Or maybe I quoted them a trip they decided not to take that year, only to see them take that trip or cruise the following year.
And I’ll be honest, it stings a little when I realize they ended up booking it their self or elsewhere. I take it a little personally. And I know most people probably don’t even realize that.
I send out plenty of quotes that never turn into vacations, and that’s completely okay! Plans change, timing isn’t always right, and sometimes people are just exploring their options. That’s part of my job, and I understand that!
But here’s something I don’t think everyone realizes. Travel advisors don’t get paid for the hours we spend quoting and planning your vacation. We don’t charge you anything extra for our planning services, and we don’t get paid until after you travel.
I can spend hours comparing resorts, checking promotions, changing dates, and going back and forth to find the best option for your family. And if that trip gets booked elsewhere, those are hours I worked for free.
And again, I know that comes with my career.
But sometimes it’s hard not to wonder, “What did I do wrong?”
This isn’t an 8–4 job for me. I answer messages in the evenings, sometimes late at night, and I’m constantly checking prices and promotions to make sure my clients are getting the best options possible.
And I truly LOVE what I do! ❤️
