You may have noticed the new plants installed along U.S. 17 from Collins Road to San Juan Avenue as part of an FDOT landscaping improvements project.

To date, the project has incorporated red bottlebrush trees, chaste trees, and Catawba crape myrtles to enhance and reflect Florida’s natural beauty. The ones in this video stand by Naval Air Station Jacksonville and reflect FDOT’s gratitude for the service and sacrifice of our armed forces and veterans.

This project is expected to be complete in fall 2026, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.

🚧SECURE YOUR LOAD🚧
Today, June 6, is National Secure Your Load Day!

Securing your load is critically important, as unsecured items can fall off your vehicle, causing crashes, injuries, or even fatalities for other drivers.

The Florida Department of Transportation urges you to safely transport your cargo by following these simple steps:

1. Pick the Right Gear: Use strong straps, ropes or chains rated for your load.
2. Load it Properly: Keep heavy items low, centered, and evenly balanced.
3. Tie it Down: Secure the load to solid anchor points using at least two straps.
4. Tighten and Cover: Tighten straps well and cover loose items with a tarp or net.
5. Check Before and During Driving: Make sure nothing moves, and re-check after a few miles.
