π€β οΈ AS A REMINDERβ¦ Things NOT TO DO While Boating! β οΈπ€ Weβve seen them all!!
Weβre all excited to be back on the water! π But with a busy lake comes a little extra responsibility. Here are a few friendly reminders to help keep everyone safe on Lake Lure!
Some things may seem harmless in the momentβ¦until they arenβt.
π« DONβT leave the helm unattended! π©ββοΈ
That selfie with your kid on the bow can wait until the boat is stopped. When the boat is underway, someone needs to be at the helm and paying attention at all times. βοΈ
π« DONβT overload the bow!
Avoid putting everyone at the front of the boat. Too much weight in the bow can make the boat unstable and increase the risk of taking on water or capsizing. Spread passengers and weight evenly throughout the boat.
π« DONβT tow without a proper lookout!
If youβre pulling a tube, skier or wake surfer, use a spotter and/or properly adjusted rearview mirror as required. The operator needs to maintain awareness of both the person being towed and the water ahead.
π¦Ά DONβT sit on the bow with your legs dangling over the edge while the boat is underway.
One unexpected wake or sudden stop can turn that into a very dangerous situation.
βοΈ DONβT ride on the sunpad while the boat is in motion.
Save the sunpad lounging for when the boat is stopped!
π« Donβt use your docking lights while underway!
Docking lights are meant for docking and close-quarters maneuvering, not cruising across the lake. Using them while underway can create glare and temporarily blind or distract other boaters.
π‘ Save the docking lights for the dock β and use your proper navigation lights after dark.
πΆ DONβT kayak or paddleboard in heavy boat traffic unnecessarily!
Stay within required No Wake areas. If you need to cross an area with active boat traffic, make it a direct crossing, stay visible and keep a close eye on approaching boats.
π« DONβT stop to swim in high-traffic areas!
The entrance to Town Marinaβor anywhere boats are constantly entering, exiting or travelingβis not the place to unload everyone for a swim. Choose a protected area away from regular boat traffic.
π All passengers under 13 must wear an approved USCG Approved life jacket!
π A little common sense and courtesy go a long way on the water.
Slow down. Stay alert. Watch your wake. π Give others room. And rememberβwe all share the lake! πβοΈπ
Boat smart. Boat safe. Boat Sober. Have fun. βοΈπ
