Lawmakers intro bill to combat 'excessive' trucking lawsuits📃

ℹ️Lawmakers introduced a bicameral bill that would attempt to put the brakes on trucking lawsuit abuse by upholding federal rather than state safety standards.

On August 11, 2026, Rep. Mike Flood (NE) and Senator Deb Fischer (NE) introduced the Uniform Vehicle Safety Standards Act to “address the recent spike in lawsuits paying out damages for standards set by states rather than federal standards.”

The legislation is intended to combat excessive jury awards in civil suits for trucking accidents based on state safety requirements rather than federal standards, which cause “increased insurance costs, trucking faced with steep payments even when meeting federal standards, and the trucking industry facing regulatory uncertainty,” according to the bill’s supporters.

Illinois political candidate proposes eliminating all state tolls⚙️

📍An Illinois gubernatorial candidate says he plans to eliminate all toll roads in the state if he is elected Governor.

The state of Illinois has been working on a 30% toll increase since late 2025, with plans for the increase to go into effect on January 1st, 2027. Now, Gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey says that he plans to not only stop the toll hike, but eliminate tolls entirely, should he be elected Governor.

According to a video statement made by Bailey, he has a four point plan that he would implement if he becomes Governor. The plan would include stopping the January 1st toll hike, appointing new tollway leadership, halting state borrowing and shifting focus to paying off existing tollway road projects, and speed up state debt payoffs. Bailey says these steps would pave the way to a toll free Illinois.

Judge halts all demands for CDL driver data in wake of lawsuits🌀

ℹ️A US District Court Judge has halted all demands for CDL driver data from all agencies in the wake of multiple lawsuits.

U.S. District Court Judge Anthony J. Trenga issued an order halting all involved parties from making demands for data or acting out consequences for failure to do so on Friday, August 14th, reported Bloomberg.

On August 13th, a lawsuit against the US Department of Transportation, the FMCSA, and the Department of Homeland Security was filed by 21 Attorneys General, the state of Pennsylvania. The suit alleges that the USDOT demanded access to the Commercial Driver’s License Information System (CDLIS).

CVSA awards trucker with 3.6 million safe miles who hauls radioactive waste📍

📌The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) honored a truck driver with decades of experience hauling legacy nuclear waste for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

On August 18, 2026, the CVSA named truck driver Tommy Cash as this year’s International Driver Excellence Award (IDEA) recipient.

Cash achieved 3.6 million safe miles so far in his trucking career, hauling freight including fuel, milk, refrigerated goods, flatbed loads, bulk commodities, and, most recently, radioactive waste.
