According to information gather by the fair board, the first fair at Lane was held in 1982 on Yonkers race track, about half a mile north of town. However, the fair did not become an annal event. It was not until 1908 that Charles Rush spearheaded a drive and started the annual fairs in town.

THE BEST FAIR
The fair association has finished the premium lists for the fall fair and got the matter ready for the printer. The lists are expected to be ready for distribution in about two weeks. The premiums offered are liberal and judiciously distributed to afford encouragement to every local industry. Large purses have been arranged for the races so that good horses will be attracted here.
The date for the fair is September 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th. This makes it come early in the season and avoids any conflict with fair dates of any other association.
The present prospect is for a very successful fair. Those having charge of the matter have spared neither energy nor expense to carry the matter through, and they ought to be rewarded by the help of every citizen in the fair's legitimate field. Farmers should now begin to get ready for their exhibit.
Watch THE LEADER for news of the best fair, and get ready to give the association a lift by way of carrying off some of its premiums.
