We are still waiting to get to work on a few of the local lakes. The Indiana DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife will have up to date information for each of the lakes in our area. Here is the latest from the IN.gov website.

Indiana boating advisories are issued by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) when weather events or hazardous conditions require restrictions or closures on public freshwater lakes. These advisories may include:

As of April 9, 2026, some current advisories include:

Motorboat operations prohibited on West Lakes Chain, Smalley Lake, and Barbee Lakes Chain

Idle speed restrictions on Sylvan Lake, Tippecanoe Lake Chain, Lake Wawasee, and Indian Lakes Chain

Advisories are created after DNR Conservation Officers investigate reported hazards and recommend actions, which are then approved by the DNR Director. Updates are posted online, at boat ramps, and through news releases.

UPDATE: The Lake Wawasee restriction has been rescinded 4/24/26 - Due to high water levels, DNR has placed emergency boating restrictions on motorized watercraft on the Barbee Lakes Chain, which consists of Kuhn, Big Barbee, Little Barbee, Irish, Sechrist, Sawmill, and Banning Lakes in Kosciusko County. An idle speed restriction is also in place on the Tippecanoe Lake Chain, consisting of Lake Tippecanoe, Oswego, and James Lakes and Lake Wawasee.

Many of our team spent the better part of the day chasing down and recovering wayward pier sections in these spring high lake levels. Sometimes they make a journey all the way across the lake.

It might be worth noting that we have never had one of our wood-free pier sections float away.

Dearest Gentle Reader, please note that the state is running a state-wide drill for all tornado sirens tomorrow (3/10) morning.

PSA!!! Tomorrow (Tuesday, March 10), Indiana will have a statewide tornado drill at 10:15a EDT (9:15a CDT). There is **NO** SEVERE RISK in the morning. If you hear sirens in the morning, that’s a good thing.

There *IS* a risk of severe weather in the evening & overnight.

I’m not a fan of Indiana doing this test tomorrow… it’s going to cause confusion, which is frustrating to me as a communicator. However, it's not my choice, and I am trying to get the word out there. Please help me inform folks of the tornado siren TEST Tuesday morning for INDIANA.
