CVSA Enforcement Blitz Targeting Reckless Truck and Bus Drivers Starts Sunday

NORTH AMERICA — Commercial drivers should expect increased law enforcement activity next week as the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance launches its annual Operation Safe Driver Week enforcement campaign.

Operation Safe Driver Week will run from July 12 through July 18, 2026, across North America.

During the week-long effort, law enforcement officers will monitor both commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers for unsafe driving behaviors.

Drivers found violating traffic laws may receive warnings or citations.

CVSA said unsafe driving behaviors include speeding, distracted driving, fatigued or drowsy driving, following too closely, impaired driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, unsafe lane changes, and disregarding traffic signals.

The focus area for Operation Safe Driver Week 2026 is reckless, careless, or dangerous driving.

According to CVSA, reckless driving involves operating a vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of people or property.

Careless or dangerous driving is defined as operating a vehicle without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other motorists or people on the road.

CVSA said the goal of the enforcement and outreach campaign is to improve driver behavior through education, traffic enforcement, and driver interaction with law enforcement.

CVSA said driver-related behaviors are largely preventable, making enforcement and education one of the most effective ways to reduce crashes, injuries, and deaths.

The alliance cited traffic fatality data from the United States, Canada, and Mexico as part of its warning. According to CVSA, 36,640 people were killed in traffic crashes in the United States in 2025, while Canada reported an average of 2,000 motor vehicle fatalities in 2023 and Mexico reported 15,979 road deaths in 2022.

During last year’s Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement issued 3,230 warnings and 1,839 tickets or citations to commercial motor vehicle drivers for unsafe driving behaviors.

Passenger vehicle drivers received 345 warnings and 665 tickets or citations during the same campaign.

CVSA said driver education is also a major part of the effort, with resources available for teen drivers, new drivers, and commercial motor vehicle drivers.

I lost more than a friend, bro... I lost a brother.

You were one of the first people to show me the ropes when I got my CDL. You taught me the old-school way of trucking—the way it should be done. More than that, you taught me about loyalty, hard work, and brotherhood.

We shared countless miles, memories, stories, and long hours behind the wheel. Our friendship went far beyond the road. You slept and ate at my house, shared meals with my family, and became part of our lives. Through the good times and the hard times, you were always there with a helping hand, a laugh, or words of encouragement.

The trucking community has lost a great driver, but those of us who truly knew you have lost someone irreplaceable.

The road ahead won't be the same without hearing your voice on the radio or seeing your truck rolling alongside mine. Your friendship, loyalty, and kindness will never be forgotten.

Thank you for the memories, the brotherhood, the love you showed my family, and the impact you made on so many lives.

Rest easy, my brother. May your final journey be peaceful. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.

Behind every truck driver…
there’s usually a family carrying part of the weight too.

The driver may be the one behind the wheel…
but back home, somebody else is sacrificing just as much.

Missed birthdays.
Empty seats at dinner tables.
Late-night phone calls that end with “I miss you.”
Kids hugging a pillow because dad or mom is still somewhere out on the highway.

People talk about the miles truck drivers put on their rigs…
but not enough people talk about the miles trucking puts on families.

Because this life doesn’t only test drivers.
It tests marriages.
It tests children.
It tests the people waiting at home hoping the next call says:
“I made it safe.”

While the truck keeps America moving…
there’s a family somewhere making quiet sacrifices nobody sees.

A wife holding everything together alone.
A husband staying strong for the kids.
Children counting down the days until that truck finally pulls back into the driveway.

That semi on the highway carries more than freight.

It carries responsibility.
It carries sacrifice.
And most importantly…
it carries the love of a family depending on that driver to make it home again.
