Our 250th Anniversary Stagecoach is headed to Hershey! 🇺🇸

This special stagecoach will be leaving Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop soon and making its way east to Pennsylvania, where it will be offered at The Hershey Auction by RM Sotheby’s next week.

Built here at Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop, this 3/4-scale Western Concord Stagecoach was created as a tribute to the people, stories, and ideals that shaped our nation as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.

And this one is certainly meant to be looked at from every angle. The doors feature two distinctly American stories — Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride and The Prayer at Valley Forge — surrounded by American eagles, historic flags, and the inscription: 1776 – Celebrating 250 Years of America – 2026

The artwork was created by renowned airbrush artist Mickey Harris, bringing together history, artistry, and the tradition of the American stagecoach in one very special piece.

Now it’s headed to its next chapter. ❤️

After more than 10 years with Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop, we’re saying goodbye to a very special part of our HWWS family. ❤️

Maurice Hartmann joined us in December 2015 and officially retired this September. While we’re truly sad to see him go, we’re excited for him to enjoy this next chapter and all that retirement has in store.

We celebrated Maurice with a little chuck wagon cookout which felt like a fitting way to honor someone who has spent so many years working with his hands and helping bring our projects to life.

Maurice, thank you for the years you gave to Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop, for the work you put into every project, and for the time you shared with the people around you. Your work, knowledge, and passion will always remain a part of the many projects you touched and the people who had the opportunity to work alongside you.

We’re going to miss having you around the shop, but we hope retirement brings you plenty of time to enjoy the things you love.

Congratulations on your retirement, Maurice! We’re wishing you all the best in this next adventure. 😍

Doug recently headed to Ketchum, Idaho, for Wagon Days, where he gave a presentation on the history and construction of the historic freight wagons used in the famous Lewis Big Hitch.

After the presentation, Doug stayed for the festivities and captured some videos of these remarkable wagons rolling down Main Street!

The Big Hitch features:
🐴 20 black Shire draft horses
⚖️ Approximately 40,000 lbs. of horse
🛞 6 historic freight wagons weighing about 6,000 lbs. each
📦 16,000 lbs. carrying capacity per wagon
💪 96,000 lbs. combined carrying capacity
🏈 And a hitch stretching nearly the length of a football field!

But the numbers only tell part of the story. The fact that these historic freight wagons have survived intact and in such remarkable condition is truly amazing and a testament to the communities and individuals who have worked so hard to preserve them for future generations. 👏

Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop is proud to have played a part in that preservation, having conserved these remarkable ore wagons along with several other wagons featured in the horse-drawn-only parade.

Doug spotted a couple of familiar pieces of our work while he was there—the Studebaker Mountain Wagon we restored for Sun Valley Resort and the Mud Wagon we restored for Snake River Stampede. It’s pretty special to see vehicles we’ve had a hand in restoring on the road and being enjoyed as part of an event like this.

🎥 Check out Doug’s pictures and videos and watch the Big Hitch roll down Main Street in Ketchum—smooth as silk!

The Budweiser Clydesdales convoy rolled into Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop today, and boy, was it a sight to see them arrive! They certainly know how to make an entrance. ❤️

We were incredibly grateful for the opportunity to welcome the crew and show them around the shop. But we have to admit… it was pretty hard not to stop and simply stand in awe of those magnificent Clydesdales!

A huge THANK YOU to the crew for stopping by and spending some time with us. It was an absolute pleasure having you swing by and see us.

Safe travels!
