Doug Hansen recently traveled to Baker City, Oregon, to evaluate 10 historic wagons at the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.

Projects like this help museums and historic sites better understand the condition, authenticity, and preservation needs of their collections.

We're grateful for opportunities to share our knowledge and support the preservation of horse-drawn vehicle history across the country.

We were honored to welcome a group of international tour operators to Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop on May 3rd following the International Roundup Tourism Tradeshow held earlier that week in Medora, North Dakota.

This multi-day event promotes international tourism and travel throughout the four-state region of North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Idaho, while giving tour operators the opportunity to discover unique destinations and experiences to include in their clients’ travel itineraries across the Great American West.

Their visit to Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop gave them a firsthand look at the craftsmanship, history, and experiences visitors can enjoy here. We truly enjoyed hosting the group, sharing what we do, and showcasing a small piece of the American West tradition that continues right here in South Dakota.

Thank you to Visit Mitchell! and Travel South Dakota especially Keelie, Doreen, and Kyler — for helping make this happen!

This Monday, several wagons will be shipping out from our shop, one of them being this Lamon Covered Wagon which is headed to Medora, North Dakota for the famous Medora Musical summer shows!

If you’ve never experienced the Medora Musical, it’s more than just a show, it’s a celebration of the American West filled with music, humor, history, live horses, fireworks, and family fun under the open sky. From Dolly to disco, every performance brings a little history, a little humor, and a whole lot of Western spirit.

This year will be especially exciting as Medora prepares for a historic summer. July 4th marks not only America’s 250th anniversary, but also the grand opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora.

We’re honored to have one of our wagons become part of the experience and storytelling that keeps Western history alive for new generations.

More on the other two wagons leaving the shop coming soon — stay tuned!

If you caught our post yesterday, you know we’re shipping out 3 wagons on Monday, and if you missed where the first one is headed, be sure to go check that out!

Next up is this original paneled farm wagon, headed to a private collector in North Carolina.

This piece carries a beautiful, natural patina that only comes with time and use, a true reminder of the work these wagons once did. Preserved history like this has a way of telling its own story, even without saying a word.

We’re proud to see it moving on to its next chapter with a collector who appreciates its character and authenticity.
