Sometimes you need to dust off the old woodworking tools, switch gears and embrace the restoration side of the business.

Latest idea for the Liberty L30 redesign. LOA extended from 35'9" to 38 feet, beam increased to 11 feet. The "Thirty-eight" is designed with a full keel and a 5' draught, she'll be at home as a weekender or passagemaker.

So begins the life of the new sailboat. The first boat built at the Boatworks since 2011. What you're seeing is the fore section of the white oak keel, laid out with the initial cuts to show her shape. This vessel will become Liberty 40 -001 and through patience, understanding and unwavering determination will become the 40 foot ketch I spoke of in the previous posts. Stay tuned for additional posts on the the L40 as well as upcoming projects at the Downriver Boatworks.

Welcome back sailboat enthusiasts! Well... after careful thought and consideration we've reached a decision for our next build! She'll be a 40 foot Ketch, also available in Sloop and Schooner configurations.

After much a heated debate we've also decided that my idea for a vessel line called "Revenge" has been castoff and the new sailing vessel line will be added to our "Liberty" line of sailboats.

These like all other watercraft we build are on a per order build, we do not "mass produce cookie cutter boats" The keel timber for the first "Liberty 40" is in the shop now being prepped to be marked and sawn, so stay tuned for updates and photos of our new lady!

Thinking it's finally time to get back to building...

Have some ideas and thoughts for a plan I've been tossing around for a bit - a Wooden Pocket Ketch. Maybe a 36 or 38 foot full keel boat.

Reason being I keep running my big toe into a couple White Oak timbers, I originally purchased for a restoration of a slope. Well that job fell through. She had to much rot for owner's pockets.

Back to current this new boat is going to be under our new "Revenge" Platform, as a Cruising Ketch, so look for future posts and pics of our new design "Revenge 38", well I guess I just decided on her length.

Sincerely,

R.J. Boros

Well it's been a bit since I've visited my old site. Not quite the way I wanted this site or shop to end up. But in life as with sailing we sometimes find a change in direction & attitude necessary. And as time progresses we find that what was important to us then is important to us now.

Things like value, integrity, craftsmanship and pure determination to turn out the best watercraft possible at the fairest price.

Check back in with us from time to time, for now we are crunching some figures to determine plausibility of a small sailboat building shop in this 21st Century.

So chime in and let us know what you all think...
