Some photos of the Akers Motor Lines Reunion Saturday; We had a great time, seeing old friends again and making some new ones! We are in the planning stages for a Bar-B-Que Next April and would like your comments.

Everyone should have your reminder post card by now and know the Reunion is right around the corner; Saturday, October 4! Looking forward to seeing you there.
Also have so sad news to report; Jimmy Lay, former OTR Driver, passed away in August. Jimmy was a good friend that I made a few trips with and he will be missed. RIP Jimmy-----

My friend, Peter Kite in England finely got the replica of Big Majors truck finished and sent pictures, as promised! Only noticeable difference is, this model has tandem drive axles and Big Majors truck only had one. Enjoy and if you have any comments, I will send them on to Peter.

Well it is almost time for the Reunion and I have already started getting ready! I got the postcards in and will get them printed and send them as reminders a couple of weeks before the Reunion, which will be Saturday, Oct. 4, 2:00 PM, Jackson's Cafeteria, Gastonia, NC.
It is very important that you take the time to attend this one; if attendance does not improve, we will be considering ending the Reunions! Come and enjoy the memories and keep them alive!
Great Door Prizes and I may even find a bottle, or two of homemade Muscadine Wine, from Ray's Lincoln County Vineyards! Randy will be displaying some Akers Memorabilia and will be accepting any donations you may have for the exhibits. Guests are always welcome. Hope to see you there----

I just got an update from my friend, Peter Kite, who is building the replica of Big Majors truck. He had a problem getting the decals made that caused a delay and his work is meticulous and slow, but perfect. He don't sell his work and builds for his own pleasure and sharing pictures. Also shipping is really rough on the models and they arrive damaged.
He has one side of this truck done and is currently working on the other side. He promised he will keep me up dated on the build, which I will pass along to you. Enjoy!

Well as you know, we cancelled the Spring Reunion due to lack of attendance. We are meeting annually now, the first Saturday in October at Jacksons Cafeteria, Akers Center, Gastonia at 2:00 PM. If attendance is not up, it could be the last one! Sorry to say most of us are unable to travel, or passed on. But a lot of relatives visit to honor their former employee at Ackers.
I strongly urge you to attend in October; we will have some new and nice door prizes, Randy will bring some Akers Exhibits, still a few red t-shirts and caps on sale and you will meet some nice people! The Country Cookin' style is also very good; they even have fried fat-back, cracklings and cornbread! So mark your calendar for Saturday, October 4, 2:00 PM and we will see you there!
In the meantime enjoy this Central Mack Tall Boy; you didn't want to fall out of these things!

The season is almost here and we want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas with good tidings and memories of all the years we had to leave on a trip to have a load of freight to a far away place the day after Christmas!
At our last Reunion on October 5th, the attendance was way down, as it has been the last couple of years! I know many are not able to travel, have health issues and several reasons that prevent your attending and we understand that. However, I know some of you want to attend, but put if off until next time! It has been a long time since Akers Motor Lines closed in 1977 and there aren't many of us left. So understanding this and talking with those who were in attendance at the last Reunion, we have decided to make some changes. We will meet only once annually, on the first
Saturday in October. There is a lot of work and some expenses to hold the Reunion, so once a year will help in this aspect.
If the attendance does not increase at the next couple Reunions, we will have to consider shutting it down! So if you know of any former Akers Employees, or family members of Employees, please contact them and ask them to attend.
It will still be held at Jackson's Cafeteria, Akers Center, Gastonia, NC and you will still get a reminder card a couple weeks early if you are on our mailing list. Looking forward to seeing you next Oct.!

Harold Poe, checking out with the Gate Guard. We were one of the teams that ran out of Charlotte to all over the Northeast. I had lots of respect for Harold and we became close friends. Notice he was pulling a "rag top" trailer; it was a lot of hard, dirty work to remove/replace, if you had a load that had to be loaded, or unloaded from the top of the trailer!

Old Truck Drivers; we can still tell good Truck Driver Stories and talk about how fast we could make our truck go! We could change gears and drive whatever Dispatch gave us! And we earned respect wherever we went--------

Another Motor Lines Reunion in the books! Attendance was down for various reasons, but we didn't let that keep us from having a good time and enjoying good company. Thanks to Hazel Seeber for getting me there and back and for all the work she done to make things run smoothly! Also thanks to Robert Akers for buying my lunch at Jackson's Cafeteria; that was some of the best roast beef I've ever had and plenty of it; I was stuffed! Everyone seemed to like the new Door Prizes; think I may have to add a couple more bottles of Homemade Muscadine Wine from Ray's Lincoln County Vineyard!
We will be making some changes about the Reunion soon, probably have it once a year. We are going to have to find a way to get the attendance up, or close down and stop doing them. If we continue, with attendance dropping, it will soon be 4 of us meeting at Waffle house for coffee! Family Member are welcome to join us to honor their former employee. If anyone has a good idea, or suggestion to get better attendance, please let us know. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures and I will try to send a few more later.

Please note date correction; Reunion date is Saturday, October 5! I looked at Sept. on the calendar and originally posted the wrong date! Reunions are always the first Saturday in the month----
