Hey friends, I wanted to take a moment to share the online exhibition “Drawn To” I’m excited to be a part of this show with so many talented makers! I’ll share a link in a story, or you can check out the page to find the link. Either way, I encourage you to take a look!

Sales from the show help support the incredible work that Pots on Wheels does. For more information about “POW!” read below:

“Pots On Wheels (POW!) was founded by a group of potters who are continuously evolving ways of sharing ceramics in communities, from rural classrooms to inner city neighborhoods. Along with renowned potters from around the country POW! provides unparalleled experiences in community ceramic art projects. POW! artist-led projects impart knowledge and the love of ceramic art with participants who may otherwise not have the opportunity to experience handmade ceramic objects.

Our 17ft renovated truck serves as a gallery and educational space bringing exhibitions, hands-on projects, and collaborations directly to schools, community centers, and open spaces. Our programming is as much about community building as it is about the objects that we teach people to make.”

I’ve been pretty quiet around here for the last few months. I started working full-time with as their Clay Studio Coordinator at the beginning of August. It’s a big change of pace going from being self-employed to working for a non-profit arts organization, but it has been wonderful on many fronts!

I get to work with so many fun creative folks, work around clay students and studio members, and get to share what knowledge (and wisdom?) I have about working with clay every single day. It’s been rewarding on many different levels.

Having said all that, I’m still trying to figure out the balance of being able to make my own work. I’ll get there, I’ll figure it out. It will be interesting to see if my work changes (I mean, it will, it’s always evolving) as I figure out ways to continue my own journey with clay.

Anyways, I’m getting ready for the in Brunswick that’s just a few weeks away, Oct. 25th-26th. And, while my life has felt busier than ever, I have been able to find a bit of time in the studio here and there to make some new work, as seen in the picture above!

A lot of pots, a lot of information for me to digest. I’ll be honest, I’m thrilled and relieved with the results from this second firing. It takes time to learn how a kiln wants to be fired and the fact that I’m getting such nice results amazes me.

My intention is to do low-fire soda in this wood kiln. So far, the reality is that it’s really more like low to mid range temps. Which, having planned accordingly with some cone 6 clay bodies in the hot spots, has actually worked out great. Phew!

Thanks again to my awesome firing crew and . I couldn’t have done it without their hard work!

Last batch of pots, hopefully they’ll dry in time to make the last bisque firing. The humidity we’re having here in Maine isn’t helping the cause!
