The City of Lockport’s Events Planning Committee sponsors the Hometown Heroes Banner Program for Niagara County’s Service members both living and deceased.

– The City of Lockport’s Events Planning Committee’s Hometown Heroes Banner program honors Niagara County servicemen through a Hometown Heroes Banner Program. Each banner honors a specific Niagara County serviceperson and includes his or her name, branch of service, and photo. Banners will be displayed on street lamps in Downtown Lockport along Main Street and East Ave from Transit to Washburn from mid-May until mid-November. Events Planning Committee Chairman, David Wohleben said, “We are very excited about this program which honors the brave men and women of Niagara County who have served their country through military service. We want to show servicemen and women that we truly appreciate their selfless service to their country and its citizens. It will also enhance visual interest to our expanding downtown. Lockport is proud to have this opportunity to show our thanks to our veterans and military servicemen. The banner program is a great reminder that many proud men and women from our community have served our country. The freedom that we enjoy every day is due to their selfless work and we want to demonstrate our thanks.”

SPONSORSHIPS: To qualify, honorees must meet one or more of the following requirements: A) A current County resident; B) Born and raised in Niagara County; C) graduated from one of Niagara County’s School Districts. 2. Serving on active duty in the United States Armed Forces or Reserve components, OR a military veteran (living or deceased) who has served in the United States Armed Forces or Reserve component and has been honorably discharged. Banners may be sponsored by individuals, organizations, or businesses. Sponsors are responsible for the full cost of the banners, which are $300 each. The sponsorship application process has a deadline sometime in April. Due to a limited number of locations, all sponsorships will be approved on a first come, first served basis. At the conclusion of the program, banners will be presented to sponsors along with an 8 x 10” print of the banner image suitable for framing. The nomination and sponsorship form are available to download from the City of Lockport’s webpage. www.lockportny.gov

HONOREE NOMINATIONS: A public nominations process will also take place to identify eligible honorees for banners without specific honorees designated by the sponsoring company. There is no cost to nominate a serviceperson. Public nominations will be due sometime in April.
