Siemens and Germany's rail operator Deutsche Bahn have announced plans to test a hydrogen-powered train with a range of more than 370 miles, technology that promises to reduce CO2 emissions and help make 1,300 diesel units obsolete.

The companies said in a joint statement that tests of a train equipped with a new hydrogen drive will commence in 2024 and run for one year.

While Covid-19 has shaken much of human society, the threat posed by global warming has not gone away.

Human activities have increased carbon dioxide emissions, driving up temperatures. Extreme weather and melting polar ice are among the possible effects.

Solar energy workers earn $24.48 an hour, while wind and grid modernization jobs pay on average more than $25 an hour.
