🚜 🚗 HARVEST is beginning to roll in the area. Being safe and sharing the roads in the area will be important.
During harvest season, sharing rural roads safely requires extra patience and attention from motorists and equipment operators alike. Farm machinery travels at slow speeds—typically 15 to 25 mph—and often makes wide swings before turning. Drivers need to be respectful of this large equipment and provide room to travel.
MOTORISTS:
* Slow down when Approaching Farm Equipment. They are not moving as fast as you think.
* Large Slow Moving Equipment may not leave enough space to meet or pass safely. Slow down prior.
* Expect wide turns: Implements may swing left before making a right-hand turn, or vice versa.
* Pass with extreme caution: Do not pass in no-passing zones, near intersections, or if view is blocked by hills, curves, or machinery.
* Avoid distractions: Put away phones and stay focused on driving and road hazards, including loose gravel, mud, farm traffic, and wildlife.
FARMERS AND OPERATORS:
* Check all lights: Ensure flashers, tail lights, and Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) emblems are clean and working.
* Use es**rt vehicles when needed and available. Deploy lead and follow vehicles with flashing lights when moving oversized machinery through heavy traffic.
* Pull over safely: Yield the right-of-way or pull over when safe to let built-up traffic pass.
* Signal clear intentions: Use signals or indicators, and remain aware of blind spots behind and beside large implements.
*Travel safe between fields, bins, and elevators. *Slow down as you travel through our communities.
