Norfolk Southern’s new paint scheme is a striking tribute that we may soon see leading assignments across our region—whether hauling freight or powering OCS (Officer Specials). It carries a presence that feels both modern and deeply rooted in tradition, blending today’s Class I stature with the legacy that built it.
Our community holds a unique place in that story. This is essentially where Norfolk Southern planted its roots on the path to becoming a premier Class I provider. From the early days of the Cincinnati Southern and the Cincinnati, New Orleans & Texas Pacific, to the era of the Southern Railway, and ultimately the formation of Norfolk Southern Railway, the journey reflects growth, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to service. Seeing that history honored on contemporary power would be a remarkable representation of community, heritage, and pride.
Maroon, gold, black, and white are true colors of the N&W and SOUTHERN Railways, and this unit wears them exceptionally well. They symbolize strength, tradition, and a legacy that continues to move forward—quite literally—through the regions that helped shape it.
