𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗝𝗼𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲: 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
By: Chrys Fuller, Travel Agent & Joy Advocate
As a travel agent with almost a decade of experience and as a woman of faith, I believe that every season is worth celebrating—and every soul deserves refreshment.
Summer doesn’t always require a suitcase, traveling hundreds of miles away from home or standing in long lines waiting to board a plane or hopping on the next thrill ride at a theme park to feel refreshing, full of adrenaline and adventure. I know that sometimes the best memories are made right where God has planted us.
Whether you’re looking to reconnect with your spouse, make lasting memories with your children, or taking time to yourself, here are some intentional staycation ideas to bring joy to your summer—no passport required!
𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀
1. 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘆𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁
Transform your backyard or balcony into a romantic getaway. String up twinkle lights, light some candles, prepare a charcuterie board or order in take out and play soft worship music or your wedding playlist. Take time to talk to one another, pray together, reflect on your marriage, and dream about the future God has for you both. It’s easy to lose ourselves in the hustle and bustle of life, get to know each other again and find joy within the little moments, they are much bigger than you think.
2. 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸 + 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗶𝘁 𝗢𝘂𝘁- 𝗜𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲
Choose a local trail, lake path, beach or quiet neighborhood route and go for a sunset walk hand in hand. Afterward, go for a stop at a local ice cream shop or set up your own sundae bar at home and reminisce on the days that you first fell in love. Sometimes it’s nice to talk a walk down memory lane too, it reminds us of our “why I picked you in the first place”, again.
3. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴
Pick a rom-com film or lighthearted romance movie and cook a meal inspired by the setting (think: “The Notebook” paired with your favorite southern dish). Then snuggle up on the couch or underneath a blanket fort you build together. Crack open a crispy soda, buttery popcorn and/or your favorite sugary treat for an after dinner, movie snack! Reflect on the film’s message and how it resonates with your journey as a couple. It’s okay to be adventurous again! Life is so serious and a little blanket fort never hurt anyone!
4. 𝗔𝘁-𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁
Set aside a weekend day where you unplug from devices, start with your bibles, a devotional, and journal together. Enjoy a homemade brunch, give each other spa treatments (add in chocolate covered strawberries, they are always a hit), and reconnect—body, mind, and spirit. It’s so important as husband and wives that we stay connected to one another in every way!
𝗙𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗞𝗶𝗱𝘀
1. 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘆𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸
Set up sprinklers, kiddie pools, and water balloons for fun in the sun. Have a picnic with all their favorite foods and sweet treats.
2. 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆
Research local gems—botanical gardens, mini zoos, historic sites, or farms. As a travel agent, I always recommend seeing your hometown through a tourist’s eyes. Let the kids be “tour guides for the day,” complete with a scavenger hunt and scripture memory cards for the journey.
3. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲
Plan a DIY week of “Creation Camp.” Each day, focus on one aspect of God’s creation—light, sky, land, etc.—with crafts, games, snacks, and short devotionals. It’s fun, educational, and spiritually nourishing!
4. 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁
Whether you have a fire pit or just gather in the living room with flashlights and s’mores, spend an evening singing songs, sharing gratitude, and enjoying each other’s company. Let the kids take turns sharing what they are excited about most for Summer or the next school year!
𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘀
Whether you’re waiting on God’s timing for a relationship or simply savoring this season of singleness, summer can still be full of refreshment, fun, and purpose. Here are some staycation ideas just for you.
1. 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁
Set aside a weekend day for spiritual renewal. Start with coffee/tea and your Bible on the porch or your favorite comfort spot, journal your prayers, listen to worship music, and take time to rest. Invite God into every moment—He is your closest companion.
2. 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗘𝘆𝗲𝘀
Create your own self-guided tour of your city. Visit local shops, hike a new trail, relax at the beach with a good book or good lighthearted tunes (We’ve put together a summer playlist for you AND there’s nothing like worshipping and while taking in God’s masterpiece), you also could try a museum you’ve never explored before. Take photos like a travel blogger, no matter who is watching and reflect on the beauty of just being present in the moment and documenting it too.
3. 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀' 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗜𝗻
Invite your closest gal pals for a potluck and an evening of worship, testimony sharing, and prayer. Have everyone bring a sweet treat for after dinner—find joy through the amazing women you have in your life, community is a gift in every season. We all need someone to share life and laugh with.
4. 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁
Yes, really! Dress up, take yourself out to a cute cafe or coffee shop and bring a devotional or your favorite Christian book. Treat yourself with intention and grace—you are worth it.
5. 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 + 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲
Use part of your staycation time to bless others—volunteer at a local ministry, be an encourages t to others by writing cards to those navigating a hard season, the leadership at your church, or a friend you just want to remind how special they are to you. Bake a dessert or drop off flowers to a neighbor just because. Then, rest knowing you reflected God’s heart.

A gentle reminder that your season of singleness isn’t a pause in your story—it’s just part of the calling God has placed on your life right now. Embrace it with joy, purpose, and anticipation. This is an exciting season of discovery. Life is full of adventures.
𝗔 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁:
While vacations are wonderful blessings, we don’t need to travel far to find joy, connection, or wonder. With creativity, intentionality, and a little help from your local travel expert (hi, that’s me!), your summer staycation can refresh your soul, strengthen your marriages, prepare your heart for “the one” and draw closer as a family unit!
Wherever this season finds you, remember Psalm 16:11: “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Fun can be found at right at home. Let’s stay rooted in joy and adventure right where we are, Sister.
