Thank you WGXA, Mark, Perry & Addison for this story on our heroic fixed route bus operator, Omari Frederick. We're so pleased that the community continues to recognize Omari for being particularly alert on the job beyond his bus - x 2!

Lots of lessons in these rescue stories - among them the need for all of us to be aware of our surroundings - being extra eyes & ears in our city, not just to assist law enforcement, but to protect children and others in our community.

The MBCTA is grateful to the Community Foundation of Central GA for the Downtown Challenge 2.0 grant which funded the SPIRIT of MACON I MURAL by the talented Abraham Abebe and for the Linda Harriet Lane Trust Grant for the SPIRIT of MACON II MURAL (which the MBCTA co-funded) on the Poplar Street Tunnel.

An additional Linda Harriet Lane Trust Grant funded the retouching of the MBCTA's two murals PLUS the three original Macon Arts Alliance Murals at the MBCTA Transfer Station.

Artist Chris Logan, a Macon native who lives in Berlin, spent a couple of days retouching his enormous mural in late December 2024.

In early June 2025, Artist Abraham Abebe completed ther retouching of his two murals.

And on Sunday, August 30, 2026, a day when no MBCTA buses run, artist Colin Pendorf spent the entire day completing the retouching of the remaining two murals, Space, & Celebration of Grace, originally created by Mary Frances Burt.

Here's the before and after of Colin's work - and his explanation for the complexity of this painstaking work - kudos & thank you Colin, Abraham and Chris!

A Macon bus driver is being praised as a hero after helping two children he found alone along his route in separate incidents.
