Ohio River, Port of Madison, IN A place for images of river traffic on the Ohio River at or near Madison, IN. We retired to Madison, IN in late summer 2020.

Nice place here, especially the Ohio River and passage of barges. We found several pages focused on barges in the Ohio System, saw there were none for here between Cincinnati and Louisville, so we started this one.

Runoff and high water brings the kind of river transport no one wants. A river skimmer is not practical, but how about "trash magnets" hanging from bridges? Might help clean up some of the trash. :-)

M/V T.C. Nugent III - twice. One headed upriver pushing only one barge, then after a great tour of the Schroeder Saddletree Museum (; https://sites.google.com/view/historicmadisoninc/hmi-properties/saddletree-factory-museum) and a quick tasty diner dinner at world-famous Hinkle’s (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063556091172), we stop at the river to chill and there is TCN3 again headed downriver with a good load. 39th and 40th catch for us. Of course, is we stayed here all day, we'd be up in the hundreds!

River projected to come up another 5 feet by Sunday.

Trio on the Ohio River at Madison, IN this morning (8/16/2026). M/V T.C. Nugent III (38th time) down bound past the waiting up bound M/V Wiliam P. Morelli (5th time) on the far shore with coal and the waiting down bound M/V Brees (4th time) with empties (it looked) backing up on the near shore before proceeding downriver.

It’s been a busy morning!!!! As you’ve heard crews were deployed to the river early to ensure the safe passage of a rogue Barge through the Madtucky Bridge!

We would like to thank the following for safe remediation of this issue and the reopening of our beloved bridge:
