The crew is really digging the new Structured Luff A3/CO on loulou. Best reacher to date. Excellent shape holding and super light weight. This is a 72sm all purpose tight reacher specifically for the boat only using an Class A2 and adding a reaching sail.

The first sailing of the 2026 season on loulou. Trying out Sail Specialist Paul Beaudin's new paneled Doyle Structured Luff J-105 A3 spinnaker before the first race at the American Spring Regatta. This is a part of an entire inventory of Paul's new club race ULTRA line. Affordable club racing sails using Challenge Sailcloth and fabricated at Doyle Qingdao. This new reaching spinnaker along with the ULTRA paneled upwind sails all looked and worked great.

Here is one of Paul Beaudin's personal Sailboat Racing Rules:

DO THE OBVIOUS.
As an exception, you had better have a very good ‘real’ reason to deviate from something that is already working.

Not adhering to this is a common foible of the sport.

EXAMPLE:
Boats naturally go off the starting line on a starboard tack and to the left. Sailing that first upwind beat on the left side of the course paid off. All things being equal, wouldn’t you do that again? It is amazing how easy it is to screw this up…

On the second upwind with a single leeward mark, the rounding has you going right. It is very easy to head off in the wrong direction and convince yourself it is good. But, if the wind has not changed you are most likely wrong. Remember that left paid off on the first beat so consider tacking and stay your course.
