Apache Disposal will be bringing a roll-off dumpster to Zuehl on 14 or 15 October. The container will be located at Tommy Anderson‘s lot and will remain until full. A prohibited items list will be posted on the side of the container. Please adhere to the rules so that we do not jeopardize using the container twice per year.

The prohibited items list is quite lengthy. Please familiarize yourself with this list prior to dumping:

No heavy material (ex. concrete, bricks and tile), dirt, demo bricks, hazardous waste, industrial waste, chemical products, oil filters, herbicides & pesticides, radioactive material, solvents, paint (except completely dried latex paint cans, no liquids), other flammable liquids, aerosol cans, propane tanks, motor oil, transmission oil/lubricating/hydraulic oil/oil filters, contaminated oils (mixed with solvents, gasoline, etc.), antifreeze, appliances, lawn mowers and other engine type items, petroleum-contaminated soil/lead paint chips, tires, batteries, computers, monitors, televisions, microwaves, fluorescent tubes, railroad ties, medical waste, asbestos, animals, barrels, all liquids.

The airspace around San Antonio is very busy—and probably more so than what most of us pilots are aware of. On the VFR sectional, San Antonio airspace doesn’t appear to be that complex. But, when you consider that there is a major international airport, two Air Force training bases, multiple municipal airports and both public and private airfields scattered copiously within a 25 mile radius, it can be downright crowded with VFR and IFR traffic!

For that reason, Zuehl Field is hosting a PILOT SEMINAR on Friday, 10 May, 7pm at Steve’s Hangar on Windsock Lane.

San Antonio approach control is going to share the big picture with us, along with their procedures and challenges. This briefing is quite “eye-opening” and Randolph Air Force Base pilots have been invited and plan to attend. We’ll be discussing specific deconfliction procedures between Randolph and Zuehl as well. If you want to know what’s going on in the airspace around us and in the local San Antonio area, this is an event for you!

We will have pulled pork sandwiches and beverages available and this is a good opportunity to meet and converse with our neighbors from Randolph, Heritage, Elm Creek and other surrounding fields who have been invited to join us.

Remember, that the Zuehl Fly-in is the following day. So, it’s going to be a fun filled weekend! Fly-in, Drive-in or Walk-in, but come out and join us!

Any questions please contact Matt Humes or Steve Harrelson.

Hopefully, (not a good strategy), everyone knows about the airshow at Randolph AFB this weekend!

Although the official “Airshow” is Saturday and Sunday, tomorrow is a full-up practice day for performers, including warbirds and the USAF Thunderbirds!

There is an active Airshow TFR in effect from 1015-1700L on Friday, and 1030-1700L on Sat-Sun. 5 NM radius from show center up to 15,000' AGL.

Additionally, there are some “holding airspace areas” within the TFR as well as one OUTSIDE the main TFR, approximately 10 NM for final to RWY33 at Randolph. This point is also being used as the run-in or starting point for the fly-overs.

If you plan on flying this weekend, be aware and check all NOTAM’s. Visiting airshow pilots are not aware of Zuehl and we are only 2NM outside the TFR ring!

Have a great weekend!

FYI, Zuehl Flyers!

Please check NOTAMS before flying tomorrow and throughout the rest of the week! Additional NOTAMS are available during the JBSA Randolph Airshow highlighting the USAF Thunderbirds this weekend!

Typically they will issue a 5mile ring—and we’re just outside that. But keep in mind that demonstration aircraft (especially formation/timing/repositioning) may take aircraft just outside the TFR. Visiting pilots are NOT aware of our airport!
