Here is a little info about the event:
Every ten years, the small Bavarian village of Oberammergau, Germany, comes alive for one of the world's most remarkable cultural and religious events—the Oberammergau Passion Play.
The tradition began in 1633, when villagers suffering through the devastating plague made a promise: if their community was spared, they would perform the story of the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ every ten years. The first performance took place in 1634, and the tradition has continued for nearly 400 years.
What makes it truly extraordinary? The performers are the people of Oberammergau. Generations of village residents participate as actors, singers, musicians, and behind-the-scenes contributors. In 2022, nearly 1,800 local residents took part—an extraordinary commitment for a village of this size.
The production is a spectacular five-hour performance depicting the life of Jesus, from his entry into Jerusalem through the Crucifixion and Resurrection.
🌍 A Global Event
This isn't just a local production. The Passion Play attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world. In 2022, approximately 412,000 people attended, with guests traveling from the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and many other countries.
