Paris now has its first shop dedicated entirely to butter, and it just opened in the 15th arrondissement.

The shop is called Le Butter Shop, and it was opened by Erwan Leo, who already ran a w**e tasting business in the same neighborhood. Instead of stocking the one French butter brand most people have heard of, he deliberately chose smaller, harder to find producers, including Échiré, Beillevaire, Beurre Dupont, and Isigny Sainte-Mère. Around 30 varieties are on offer, from classic salted butter to seaweed, black truffle, and yuzu.

Visitors are invited to taste the butter on its own before buying, the same way you would taste w**e or cheese. It sounds unusual, but the shop treats butter like a genuine gourmet product rather than something you just grab at the store.

The shop also solves the one problem every visitor worries about: getting the butter home in one piece. Le Butter Shop vacuum-seals every purchase for the trip, and insulated cooler bags are available for longer travel. Since butter counts as a liquid for airport security, it needs to go in checked luggage rather than a carry-on, but packed properly, it holds up fine for the flight home.

After yesterday’s thunderstorm, the sky opened back up to the most beautiful blue. Finally. Those hot, humid days can be such a drag.

I spent an hour outside under the umbrella, perched on the one dry chair I could find, just listening. The birds and squirrels were absolutely manic in the trees—I swear they felt refreshed by the rain too.

Three little cloudbursts drifted through while I sat there, but the air was cool, fresh, and peaceful. It was one of those simple moments that reminds you how quickly nature can restore both the landscape… and your spirit.

So much history!

Dunalastair House is the site of an earlier house built by the great poet chieftain, Alexander Robertson, whose support for the Jacobite cause to return the Stuarts back on the throne of Scotland resulted in the destruction of his home.

In 1853 the estate was sold by George Duncan Robertson, 18th Chief of Clan Robertson, to General Sir John Macdonald of Dalchosnie, who commanded the land forces in Scotland. He demolished the house and built the present one in 1859 to a design by Andrew Heiton, a Perth-based architect, who also designed the Atholl Palace Hotel.

During the Second World War, the house was requisitioned and used as a school for Polish children. In the mid 1950s Dunalastair was abandoned following the death of the current owner’s grandmother, and the lead from the roof was stolen in the sixties, leaving the interiors exposed – the reason for the decay of the building to its current condition.

Various ideas have since been put forward for restoring the house, however given the extensive cost of such an undertaking, nothing has so far come of them.
