As many of you know, this is the time of year where we go up to James Madison University, and play seek and find with refrigerator and microwave units that were rented out to students.
They have 20 resident dorm buildings and about 6,400 dorm rooms across campus. We had to find about 1400 units. Once we find them, we transport them back to our rented warehouse in Harrisonburg and clean them to be stored for the summer. We will repeat the process in August by taking them back to students who have rented them after touching them up from being in a warehouse. Here are some pictures from the week. I did not take that many as I spent most of my time cleaning refrigerator units. 🤪
But, hopefully it gives you an idea of what we do every year at JMU.

Meet Penelope. She was installed tonight was made possible from the Doris Covingtonerials from Doris Covington, and the artistic talents of Ashley Austin and Maniah Evans. She can be found in the garden located along Fifth Street in downtown Mebane. Please come visit our neighborhood garden. We have tried to make the paths clear and inviting this year. Hopefully it will make it easier for patrons to pick the fruits of our labor. Last year the garden was extremely whimsical, a bit chaotic and a little intimidating to pick tomatoes and cucumbers from overhead.

We had the pleasure today of volunteering through Sleep in Heavenly Peace - NC, Mebane. Mebane has a new chapter and we are very proud to volunteer with them. There are kids in the community that are still sleeping on the floor. We want to reach them and get them into a bed. Please check out this organization and see how you can help either through volunteering or donating supplies. Or, come out to the fundraiser on May 30 at Buffalo lanes. I have attached the information.

Let me tell you a little story. There once was a lady named Doris who introduced me to Anna about five years ago. Anna introduced me to Melody. Melody has been packing for us since then and introduced me to her friend Sandy. (We often refer to Melody and Sandy as the golden girls ) if you know you know …..Last week, we had the pleasure of Packing and moving Anna‘s daughter and then helping her unpack and get organized. Melody, Sandy and I were all on the job and as it turned out, so were cake pops provided by Doris. I know people think it’s weird when I say jobs are fun, but this one truly was.

Today, one of our customers showed remarkable kindness by donating unwanted cleaning items to our blessing box. We also invite donations of unexpired, non-perishable food items. If you have a large quantity of a particular item, please contact me directly through this page and I will arrange to meet you at the box, allowing us to distribute a portion of the items at a time while storing the remainder in the warehouse.

The ultimate compliment for us is a repeat customer. Today, it happened to be a repeat customer’s birthday and we were packing them for their move tomorrow. We of course, brought cake and all wore happy birthday buttons!

When you are sitting on your deck and realize that your customer for the day is moving into your backyard almost( because you hear your truck😂), you have to go say hello and welcome to the neighborhood! (with flowers from your yard)

When you have a small business, it can be hard to get away sometimes. Last week, we celebrated my mom’s 80th birthday in the Outer Banks with family. The guys were rock stars while we were gone. It never gets old to hear how much they are appreciated though. Let us know if we can help with your next move.

Yesterday, I battled the ice so that I could get the packing truck loaded up for jobs this week. It was much easier not to have to track up and down the icy hill to do this. Also, I must admit, breaking ice with the sledgehammer and the shovel was extremely satisfying.

Loaded the packing truck today walking uphill in the snow ….couldn’t resist saying it. 😂😂😂I had to break off the 1/2 inch ice from the tailgate before I could start. 🤪
We are now ready for the move in the morning.
