We dont post on here very much anymore but we are still getting after it! Today we have an LML Duramax we are finishing up that came in with excessive blow by and a #6 cylinder contribution code. Upon engine tear down it was discovered that along with low compression from a cracked piston on cylinder #6, five other pistons were beginning to crack as well. After talking over options with the customer they opted for the more cost effective route of fixing what they had. A new set of Mahle pistons, new rod and main bearings, fresh cylinder heads from the machine shop, and a complete engine reseal will have this LML back in tip top condition and ready for its next 300,000+miles! This engine is a perfect example of why quality tuning is imperative to a long life for your diesel truck. Excessive timing and injector pulse width from the tuning in this truck had fuel spraying well outside the bowl in the piston which led to this failure.
