Congratulations to RUBEN ZARATE on his award as the 2026 Trailways Driver of the Year for Charter and Tour Services. Ruben has been employed with VIA since May 2008 and holds CA CDL Class B/P/Air Brakes and SPAB (School Pupil Activity Bus) Certification.

Though he is VIA’s first choice for 5-star tours, he will do any type of trip, exhibiting a high level of professionalism, no matter who the group is or where the venue, without complaint; from corporate executive VIPs, to university faculty/staff, high school, elementary and pre-school students, seniors, military, to name a few.

He has a knack for directing large driver groups to understand the trip, instructions, details, and safety aspects, while ensuring all are in unity and flow smoothly together to provide exceptional customer service. Additionally, he is flawless at problem solving most issues that arise without overstepping, saving our Operations Team extra time and effort.

Ruben is VIA’s mega-mentor! He is the prototype, an example others can follow, and rest assured of success. His pride in being a part of our company is visible to everyone. Because of his love for the company, he makes himself available 24-7 to these and ALL drivers to assist them with planning and prep, logistics, maneuvering challenging geographical locations and even giving some basic training on tasks like snow chaining, time- and fatigue-management, etc. sharing his experience and tips. .
