Good morning, friends.

We want to thank everyone for all their support over the last few years. I will be closing down this FB page this weekend.

We made some changes to our upcoming closing date and will be ending operations at the end of this week (3/25/2023).

We know we have been loved by our community as our schedule is full all the way through to our closure.

Thank you so much for everything, and perhaps I will see some of you as I return to work as a physical therapist assistant in the East Valley.

Much love to you all!! - Valerie

Hello friends of Independence Transport Services,

After much consideration, I have made the decision to cease business operations this upcoming summer. We will conclude transportation on June 15, 2023. We have absolutely come to know and care so much for our clients. Please know that this decision was made after much soul-searching and contemplation.

If we have spent much time together, you know that I left my previous career as a Physical Therapist Assistant after my husband’s spinal cord injury. ITS was created out of love and understanding that I could still make positive changes in the lives of people in my community.

However, after nearly 3 years, we have reached a point in which I can return to treating clinically, which is my greatest passion. I will return to the clinic with a perspective gained not only from the changes in my personal life, but additionally with the impact each of you have made in my heart.

I choose to end this chapter in my life on a positive note, and hope that I have made the impact I intended to, getting our beloved clients through difficult stages in their lives. I’ve been able to watch so many of you graduate from therapy, successfully learn to walk again, and make significant strides in your medical recoveries. I wish you all the best as you continue to move forward with great progress.

As mentioned, services will continue until June 15, 2023. There will be no interruption of appointments already scheduled with ITS.

Thank you for all your love and continued support.

Our friends at Arizona Chapter, Paralyzed Veterans of America recently held their first outreach event for homeless veterans at their office. They were able to serve over 40 veterans in need.

This is great work that comes from the volunteerism of many to make all the parts work correctly. If you are interested in volunteering your time to help our local veterans, please see the info in this shared post for an upcoming February event!

Sending all our love to the many volunteers and our friends at PVA!

There was double trouble on this morning's transport! ;)

Erika and I teamed up to ensure an easy process for a local couple that are having some trouble getting around.

We were also able to run back to the office to pick up some items that will help make some of their home life and daily tasks a bit easier.

They were happy, we are happy, and a good time was had by all.

♡♡♡

As we love to support small businesses like ourselves, we want to give a shout out to Noir Electric LLC for their great service!

Our driver Erika recently had a major electrical issue at home and Noir came to the rescue. She noted their amazing customer service, quality work, and ethical practice as their major qualities.

If you are in need of an electrician, we highly recommend Noir Electric!

This weekend I helped the AZ Spinal Cord Association transport registered attendees over to the Abilities Expo in Scottsdale.

We met at Ability 360 in Phoenix, which is located right off the Valley Metro Lightrail. Many of the attendees came via bus and lightrail. We loaded these passengers and drove them 21 miles to WestWorld of Scottsdale to the expo.

I want to share a few of the stories I heard this weekend.

- One attendee was refused transport with AAA Medical Transport because she has a service dog.

- Multiple attendees expressed frustration with the use of Paratransit services, in which the arriving van was incorrect for their needs, was late, or didn't show up at all.

- Another attendee spent over $200 on a one-way transport to the airport because the previously scheduled van service cancelled her ride 3 hours before she was set to get to the airport. I believe the trip was under 10 miles from her home to the airport.

- The few that made it out from the East Valley expressed frustration that there are limited transportation resources coming from Apache Junction, East Mesa, San Tan Valley, Queen Creek due to limited and/or no bus and lightrail services.

- We discussed the high costs associated with buying a wheelchair accessible vehicle. One attendee said it perfectly, "being disabled is expensive".

How do we move forward to best assist our community? How do we ensure that freedom and independence are truly free?

If you knew first hand how difficult it is to manage life with all these roadblocks, you'd all be in for the shock of your life. Accessibility matters. We have a lot of work to do to ensure that our cities are available and accessible for all people.

I've been doing my best to address these issues how I can. But how do we make the changes our community needs on a higher level?
Who's door do I need to knock on to make these changes happen?

And who is coming with me?

Just had an amazing conversation with Courtney at Brighter Days Transportation. I'm so glad to see another woman-owned, small business growing and making things happen for our community! They offer ambulatory transportation services across the East Valley as well, so if we are unavailable on the day you need, Courtney is a great resource!

Thanks for a great chat, Courtney! Hope to see you out there soon!!

Happy Thursday! Let's take some time to answer a few of our FAQs!

Here are 5 of our top Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Question: How soon can I book my transportation appointments?

Answer: As soon as you make them with your doctor!! Truthfully, a few of our regular riders are already booked for their appointments in December 2022. This is the best way to ensure you have a ride ready to go. Don't wait til the week of your appointment to schedule your transportation!

2. Question: Do you have immediate dispatch services?

Answer - No. As we are still a small, upcoming business, we do not utilize a dispatch services at this time. All calls placed to us are answered by the driver on duty. If the driver is loading/unloading or driving, your call will be sent to voicemail for screening and a call back within 24-48 hours.

3. Question: Are you a taxi service?

Answer - While it may seem that is the industry we operate in, remember that our services are more concierge in nature. We strive to deliver skilled, excellent customer service and door-to-door accommodations, while catering to individual needs. We offer more than just a curbside pick up or drop off. Therefore, we do not operate as a taxi service with same-day, immediate transports.

4. Question: Can anyone schedule a ride through your company?

Answer: Yes, however, we do have preference in ensuring wheelchair users and the senior population has a dependable transportation resource in the East Valley. So while the answer is yes, we do take all people to their destinations, know that we do offer preferential treatment to those two vulnerable populations.
In these cases, we recommend users to utilize Uber, Lyft, or a local taxi company.

5. Question: What cities do you operate in?

Answer: Our business is based in East Mesa, Arizona. We primarily provide transportation in Mesa, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Chandler, Tempe.
This doesn't mean we do not pick up in other cities, but due to increasing costs of fuel and doing our best to save you money, we would recommend transport services closer to your area.

If you have any questions about our services, feel free to message us here on Facebook, or you can email Valerie at [email protected] . You can also call 480-433-0467 between the hours of 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
