Sometimes what feels like a serious propeller problem has a very simple solution.

The owner called after running through a heavy patch of seaweed. Right afterward, they noticed vibration coming from the propeller area. They brought the boat back to the dock at low speed, thinking the prop might have struck something hidden in the weeds.

I went underwater to inspect it—and fortunately, there was no damage. Just a plastic bag wrapped around the propeller. A few seconds to remove it, a quick inspection, and the boat was ready to go again.

It hurts to see a well-maintained boat with fresh antifouling paint that hasn’t been cleaned for several months.

Barnacles don’t just wash off once they’ve had time to grow. They bond into the coating, leave white marks, and often come off together with the antifouling paint underneath. At that point, cleaning becomes harder, more aggressive, and more expensive.

This boat had not been cleaned for about three months. I did my best to clean it properly, and the result came out good, but some barnacle base marks are already permanent until the boat is hauled out, stripped, and repainted.

That is not cheap in Florida. It also takes time to schedule and requires the right people to do it properly.

Regular maintenance is much simpler:

Clean your boat once a month, and it will stay in good condition.
Clean it every two weeks, and it can stay close to ideal for a long time.

The seawall in the Hollywood, Florida canals is due for reconstruction, and before any repair work can begin, the contractor needs an accurate assessment of the structure's condition.
