We don't hear it on charters, but in general population, folks gripe about buying fishing licenses. A one-day Michigan license is $11 for a non resident. A small price to pay for maintaining a fishery that would not otherwise exist in Lake Michigan.

Most assume the boat is named in connection with firemen or a fire dept, instead it is named for what happens when you have controlled chaos. Multiple rods going off. Clearing lines for the reel in. That’s our fire drill.

Time to bring this blog post back after I (Trish) listened to a captain of another boat talk about a guy who immediately tightened the drag every time he grabbed the rod and would lose the fish. We also had a group early season lose more than 20 fish by "bass fishing." Now we're later season, there ain't 20 fish to lose - every one counts. LISTEN TO YOUR CREW!

We average 3-6 balloons pulled from Lake Michigan per trip. What goes up must come down and often it's wildlife that pays the price.

Balloon debris kills birds and befouls lakes. Are $800 fines the answer?

MI DNR to add 200K more Kings to 2022 stocking plans. They had pulled back to help bait fish bounce back and it’s doing just that.

With the rise in alewives, the DNR is concerned that the number of invasive species may continue to increase.

The bellies of the salmon sure have been full. We were just talking about whether we'd see alewife covered beaches like the 80s.

Heads up, if you get an annual fishing license for Michigan and Indiana, you're now expired - time to get a new one.

We're all busy so it is easy to forget, so here is your reminder! Don't be like this director of the DNR in Iowa who assumed hers auto renewed.

Most states allow you to just keep an image on your phone now too.

But if you're just fishing one day with us, one-day licenses are available on the boat. Fish on! -Trish

A question we get often is, When is the best time to fish? And that used to be an easier question to answer but it gets tougher each year.

This article is focused on Lake Superior, but the facts remain the same for Lake Michigan. Water temperatures are amajor player in the fishing eco system.

We like to say get out fishing in the colder water months, but it's fishing and we're already seeing some changing patterns this season.
