Livestock Hauler Arrested for Bypassing Florida Ag Inspection
• Roger Rodriguez Vega was arrested by the Florida’s Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement (OALE) on charges including 24 counts of Unlawful Entry of Animals into the State and one count of Resisting an Officer Without Violence after attempting to bring 24 sheep and goats from Texas into Florida without the required Screwworm documentation.
• Vega was initially denied entry at the Pensacola Agricultural Inspection Station because he could not produce a valid Official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection, prompting an OALE alert due to the animals originating from a Screwworm-infested zone.
• Officials later located Vega, who had re-entered Florida through Georgia, bypassing the inspection station, and he was subsequently booked into the Nassau County Jail, with the trailer of animals being escorted out of the state, as Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson emphasized the state's commitment to protecting its agricultural industry and holding violators accountable.
