Upon hearing the horrifying news about the shooting at Robb Elementary school in Uvalde TX I knew I wanted to do something for the immediate family members of the victims. I wasn't sure what I could possibly do in the face of such overwhelming tragedy that would make any difference to these families but I knew that my creativity and resin work would help me come up with something to at least try.
There was an anonymous donation of $200,000 made to cover the cost of the funeral services, another company was customizing caskets, funeral homes were donating their services and florists were donating flowers. All of these are amazing things, and I'm sure have taken a huge stressful burden off of these families shoulders but ultimately these services are still part of the sadness.
Me being who I am, I had to look for the light in this very dark space, a way to create some kind of beauty from this senseless, unthinkable act. I have decided I will be donating my floral preservation services to the families, and arranging pickup and transport of the funeral florals. I'm hoping to include trinkets and favorites of the victims and really personalize these pieces for the families in hopes that eventually, they will be able to look at them and rather than feeling sadness, they will see their loved one in it and think of a fond memory and smile or laugh. It is my hope that these pieces will help these families begin to heal.
