Average Length of Haul
The average distance in miles between the pick-up and delivery points.

Carrier
An individual, partnership, or corporation engaged in the business of transporting goods or persons; a trucking company.

CB

CDL
Commercial Driver's License; a type of driver's license mandated by the Commercial Motor Vehicle Act of 1986 that establishes minimum national standards.

Class A
Refers to type of CDL permitted the licensed driver to operate a combination vehicle (tractor-trailer) with a gross weight of 26,001 or more pounds.

Common Carrier
Freight transportation company which serves the general public. Maybe a regular or irregular route.

Dedicated Run
This refers to a driver pulling freight for one specific shipper week after week, with the same pick-up and drop off points.

Dispatching
The scheduling and control of intercity traffic and intracity pick-up and delivery.

Here are Bible verses that can help truckers “keep on trucking!"

Mark 1:35 “And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.”
My brother-in-law is a truck driver, and this verse about Jesus where “he would withdraw to desolate places and pray” (Luke 5:16), is just what he routinely does. He knows that His life is ultimately in God’s hands and that His trust is in the Lord, not in his driving ability. Of course, he does watch out for the other drivers, but he also knows that God is watching out over him and that’ gives him peace of mind. Even so, he prays before he hits the road and puts His life in God’s hands, and there is no surer place to be (John 10:28-29).

Employment Outlook: Is There a Truck Driver Shortage?
The US Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 85 percent of the total value of US cargo is trucked, accounting for 66 percent of all freight by weight. Trucking-related occupations employ about 10 million people.

In Focus: Truck Driver Shortage is Ongoing

According to the US Department of Labor, the transportation industry in general is working now to develop a pipeline of younger workers to meet expanding demands for growth and to replace an aging population of transportation workers; about one in six truck drivers are over 55.

According to the American Trucking Associations (ATA), the median annual wage for a trucker that works for a private fleet is $73,000.
