Brady Eugene , head mechanic, likes to share his knowledge from working on e-bikes all day. A few key things he considers when selling e-bikes.
1. Brakes and stopping power – How safely and reliably will this bike stop? Are the brakes high quality, and are replacement brake pads readily available?
2. Rideability without power – If the battery runs out of charge, can the bike still be pedaled comfortably, or does it become a heavy, difficult-to-ride bike?
3. Serviceability and maintenance costs – Can parts be easily replaced? Are components standardized and available, or are they proprietary and expensive? A good e-bike should be practical and affordable to maintain over time.
4. Battery and motor support – Who makes the battery and motor, and will replacement parts be available in a few years? The most expensive repairs on an e-bike are often related to the electrical system, so long-term support matters.
