Packing your own boxes does not automatically mean you have no protection. But on interstate moves, it can make a damage claim harder to establish.

Your long-distance moving truck arrives—but it can’t safely reach your home.

A narrow road, tight turn, or access restriction may mean your belongings need to transfer between the large truck and a smaller one.

That’s shuttle service. The extra truck and handling can add to your moving bill.

Before booking, ask:

• Have you checked truck access at both addresses?
• Could either location require a shuttle?
• Is that cost included, and how would it be calculated?

A shuttle can be necessary. Knowing about it early helps you budget for it.

Moving out before you can move in?

Budget for getting your belongings into storage AND back out to your new home, plus the storage itself.

Ask for the full cost of both stages in writing before you book.

What would you receive if your TV was damaged during your move?

If you choose released value protection for an interstate move, the mover’s liability is limited to 60 cents per pound per item. For a 50-pound TV, that’s just $30—regardless of what you paid.

This is basic mover liability, not replacement-cost insurance.

Ask about the mover’s Full Value Protection option. Also check with your homeowners or renters insurer about coverage during transit and storage, including exclusions and deductibles. Don’t assume accidental moving damage is covered.
