Let’s Chat about what being a “Legal Moving Company” means and looks like and how YOU the consumer should do/can do to PROTECT YOU…. (Yes, there is a difference and yes, it matters & hears why…)

Before hiring movers, consumers should always ask:

Are they licensed?

Are they insured?

Do they have real reviews?

Do they have an established business presence?

Will they still answer the phone if something goes wrong?

Unfortunately, many people don’t realize there’s a big difference between a legal professional moving company and someone simply advertising online with a truck and a few helpers.

That’s where we love to educate our community, so we can provide you with the information to best inform you before you choose.

A legal moving company invests heavily into:
• Commercial insurance
• Workers compensation
• Licensing and compliance
• Proper equipment
• Trained crews with years of knowledge and experience.
• Protecting your home and belongings

Why does that matter? Because if an uninsured mover damages your furniture, your home, or someone gets hurt on your property, you could be left dealing with the consequences.

📣 Choosing a Moving Company? Great, now let’s talk about one VERY important process when choosing that company with some helpful tips and questions, after all, when choosing your movers you want peace of mind and to be fully protected? Absolutely! 💯

Moving is one of the biggest and let’s be honest, super stressful events in life, no way around that. Your home, your memories, your investments, so peace of mind in making sure you are educated and asking the right questions when vetting any moving company should always be at the top of your to-do list. Protecting yourself and your belongings should always be top priority. ✅

One of the many things that we take great pride in at Discount Moving is educating our clients. Yes, even if we are not a good a fit and the client needs other options. You call our office and we are here to help. Helping others is what we are about.

Before hiring a moving company, here are a few things everyone should check and we are happy to share and walk you through the process.

✅ LICENSED
A “legal” moving company is registered with the State of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. This means they meet all regulatory requirements and are accountable.

✅ BONDED
Being bonded protects consumers if the company fails to complete the job properly.

✅ INSURED
Fully insured protects YOU if something is damaged, broken, or if someone gets injured on YOUR property.

Unfortunately, in the State of Oklahoma there are more “illegal and uninsured” movers than there are “legal”. Operating without the proper licensing or insurance or equipment puts YOU, your belongings and your property at risk. While they may be cheaper and offer lower cost, it can come at a very serious risk and cost.

*No Accountability
*No protection for damages
*No protection if a worker is injured on your property or if they damage your property.
*No recourse if items disappear

The “cheapest” move ends up being the most “expensive mistake”. We are here to help educate you on how to make sure you’re protected.

We’re happy to share a copy of our license with you. If you are looking at a moving company and they can not, or will not happily share their license and their USDOT number with you….RUN AWAY!! The license that you should be looking for looks EXACTLY the same as the one we are sharing. Again, our industry is ugly. There are 3rd parties that try to claim to be the license insurer, however, this is fake.

So how do you know if their license is valid? It will look exactly like the one we are sharing here with you.

Q: But aren’t you concerned that others will try to duplicate your license using A.I.?

A: They can.

Q: So how do you the consumer know if they are in fact legal?

A:Easy. One quick phone call to the TRANSPORTATION DIVISION at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission at: 405-521-2251.

Tell them you are needing to verify if a moving company is licensed with the State of Oklahoma.

They have a complete list of ALL LEGAL moving companies in the State.

Every year, we are required to turn in all of our insurance policies to the State of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, if we fail to do so they will will send us a cease and desist letter and lock our doors.

Q: How do the ones that are claiming to be “legal” get away with operating?

A: They are doing what is called “running under the radar”. It is just a matter of them getting caught.

Q: So. How do you compete with these “”illegal” people that are “cheaper”??

A: By educating our clients and communities and setting our standards high, providing an excellent moving service.

At Discount Moving, we are fully licensed, bonded, and insured- because protecting our clients matters more than cutting corners.

We believe in doing things the right way, even when no one is looking. Education and knowledge is power and protection and we are here for both!
