Peny practiced getting out of the dock... that throttle is a bit new to me...had some assistance and learned.....promising to continue my practice.....0ff we went at about 0930.......today through every small channel and saw more whales a small pod.....just enjoying life we decided to stay our last night still in the Dan Juan's and get up at 0500 to travel to Bellingham docks if we needed too....awesome, heartwarming...saw seals and a beautiful sunset.....promising to do this OFTEN ! We hiked, we relaxed.....we just were !

Day Six - OK be careful what you wish for Crab and more whales, actually I am bad...we saw whales again as we sailed up San Juan Channel to Deer Harbor yesterday. Pat asked me to check out the "gill nets" up ahead and I noticed an orange raft, then some spouts......yikes we were in the race again ! OK now for the crabs.....we woke up at 0800 and what should be on our starboard side but a crab pot and and crab boat.....Can you sell us some crab ! Of course $10. Each wow ! We steamed them right then and left at 0900....with crab cooling in the sink. We list the Black Swan due to a tooth ache of Capt. Tom's but we reconnected due to obtaining some infection drugs that he found in Friday Harbor......stopped at Orcas to buy butter, Best Foods mayonnaise and crab stuff and then sailed to Deer Harbor for crab dinner......with everyone ! My apologies I may have gotten the names of some days twisted up...but the events and places really happened.......

Day Six.....continuing to explore the scenery..... and smile and learn and feel pretty balanced although our mainsail was giving us a big learning curve......trim the topping lift, try to get the boomvang done....yikes on the last day we adjusted the main halyard and it worked. We proceeded to make notes fir the Owner's manual......we want to get Charter of the Year !!!! And Oat his NSO hat !
Were wishing we could find an available crab fisherman.....be careful or thankful what you ask for...we anchored and hoped we had a great spot. I think this was the spot I boasted about my expertise of playing UNO with my grandsons and winning...so I bet.....needless to say I owe Pat Hannigan TWO dinners when he can find the time !

Day Five- off at 0835...we are getting pretty good and knowing the characteristics of the boat and enjoying Sara's coffee ! Decided that we were going to sail with the Black Swan so we made a connecting communication channel. Come to find out it was the Whale Watching Channel and we quickly found ourselves in the "watch" whoooooo ! And after sailing down Haro Strait and turning west at Cattle Point we found ourselves following the amazing Orcas-2 pods- up San Juan Channel ! Wow simply amazing......we stated at Deer Harbor that eve......events and times were starting to blend together for me.....going with the flow...good thing I write things down , kind of ! Had ice cream, showers, looked at old boats.....Tomorrow off to North Lopez Island and Swifts Bay....

Day Four- off to Roche Harbor around Turn Point across President's Channel and into Haro Strait.....watching for wind and always for whales...had some great sailing and stayed out all day because we had reservations.....Finally docked at 1415, took showers.....met Capt. Tom and First Mate Catherine. Walked to the Mausoleum and enjoyed a wonderful sharing of NSO Pat...touching and poignant ! Toured the sculpture garden and when I win the lottery I have my favorites ! Had a wonderful dinner, laughed and visited, had drinks and laughed dome more...watched the Guards take down the colors and watched the sunset and went to Dreamland very happy we were doing what we were doing. I did my "homework" checking the tides, the ebbs and the flows, I mean floods.....and got checked off by the NSO.....

Day Four - An 0830 start we rounded the turn at Turn Point and headed into President's Channel and Haro Strait watching beautiful boats trying to catch the wind as we were...sometimes we did sometimes not. On our way to Roche Harbor we played and tacked and Pat checked my "homework" for tides, currents and Ebb and Flows...I mean floods......fun fun we all were at the helm and the sails. Watch out for those important steps of securing lines around winches before opening ! At 1415 we docked at Roche, took showers.....hiked to the Mausoleum....wow. Pat shared a touching family story.....met iur sailing friends Capt. Tom and First Mate Catherine, had dinner, laughed, had drunks and laughed more ! Watched the Color Guards take down the flags....Smiled alot because we were on the water !
