It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of John “Jock” Williams earlier this month. Jock was far more than just a boatbuilder, he was the founding spirit of the boatyard that proudly carries his name.
John Williams Boat Company is about family. That isn’t by accident, it was by Jock’s nature. From the way he treated the crew to the lasting relationships he built, Jock created a yard where customers aren’t just clients, but part of an extended family. The iconic Stanley boats that left the shop under his watch weren’t just boats; they were reflections of their intended purpose, his vision and deep love for the water and the community surrounding it.
Jock was a formidable force in the boating community – a man whose passion for classic Maine craftsmanship set a benchmark across the maritime industry. Jock’s presence, wisdom, traditions and uncompromising standards remain built into the culture of the yard. As we grieve his passing alongside his family, we also celebrate the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind. The name on the sign isn’t changing and neither is the family atmosphere you feel when you step into the yard.
Fair winds and following seas, Jock.
