I have been in transportation and logisitcs for over thirty years, owning my own companies for twenty two of those. I am hear because I have had the good fortune to work with some amazing drivers and operators over those years but I have also had to watch more and more of them just hang it up as recently as this week. Over the road trucking is a hard profession, once built on tradition and pride. A profession a man could feed his family with and the back bone of our country moving goods from coast to coast. More and more I have watched like every other profession in the United States trucking became outsourced to the lowest dollar. When this happens you lose the professionals and they are replaced with sub par operators and once good companies are gone (mine almost being one of them) giving rise to what you are seeing now in the news, illegal trucking operations.
So on this Labor Day if you know a trucking professional, thank them for being willing to stay the course. Pay the high price of fuel, insurance, repairs and being away from their families for days on end to bring you everything you own.
