With overnight temperatures forecast to dip near freezing as we head into the weekend, it’s time to move winterization off the “I’ll get to it” list!

🍂 THE BOATING SEASON IS WINDING DOWN… AND WINTER ISN’T FAR BEHIND. ❄️

We know. Nobody wants to talk about winterizing the boat while there are still a few nice days left on the river.

But you know what’s even less fun?
Finding out next spring that water froze somewhere it shouldn’t have. 😬

A proper winterization is a whole lot cheaper than cracked blocks, damaged gearcases, fuel-system problems, or spending the first beautiful weekend of spring watching everyone else launch their boats while yours is sitting in the shop.

At Tailwater Marine, we don’t just pull a drain plug, wave goodbye, and call it winterized. We take the time to properly prepare your boat for months of cold Iowa weather so that when spring rolls around, you can spend more time boating and less time fixing.

UPDATE ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER

The newest river forecast has just been released, and there has been a noticeable improvement compared to the earlier forecast.

At this time, the Mississippi River is now forecast to only reach around flood stage at Muscatine and New Boston, while Keithsburg is expected to see minor flooding. This is certainly better news than the higher river levels that were being indicated earlier.

That being said, anyone with campers, equipment, or property in low-lying areas along the Mississippi River should still continue to pay close attention over the next several days. Even flooding near the lower end of the scale can affect low-lying campground areas, access roads, boat ramps, and locations immediately along the river.

River forecasts can continue to change as runoff works downstream, so I will continue watching each new forecast closely. For now, the latest update is definitely a move in the right direction, with Muscatine and New Boston only expected to reach flood stage and Keithsburg currently forecast for minor flooding.
