Over 50 years of house moving related activities, you'd think I would have seen it all... Proud of my team for reaching out to proper authorities and allowing proper recovery of these remains.

This classic Michigan Home built in the 1940s, is receiving a brand new basement. The old cement block foundation had started to buckle in and allow moisture to weep through. when we are done, it will have basement under the entire structure, waterproof, level floors, and structural integrity to last into the next century.

In Honor of My Dad

As many of you know, last week we lost my dad, Richard “Dick” Deitz. He passed away peacefully on April 4th, surrounded by family. He was 94 years old and lived every one of those years with purpose.

My dad was the second generation leader of our family owned company. For more than six decades, he dedicated his life to advancing the structural moving industry with integrity, innovation and uncompromising quality.

He served his country. He led his industry. He built our business to what it is today. All while being a devoted and loving husband to my mom Pat for 74 years and a dedicated father, grandfather and a great-grandfather.

To my mom, my sisters Patti and Debbie, and our entire family, we were blessed to have him and he will be deeply missed. To our dedicated crew, he was proud of you. Thank you for honoring his memory every time you show up and do this work the right way.

To our neighbors, partners, fellow house movers and to all those who knew and loved him, thank you for being part of his story and ours. If you have a photo of Dick on the job, playing guitar or any memory, we’d love to see them.

We honor my dad’s remarkable life and the enduring foundation he built for generations to come. His legacy lives on in the work we do every day and in the fourth generation team that proudly carries his name forward.

Deitz House Moving Engineers Honors the Life and Legacy of Industry Leader
Richard Deitz

MUSKEGON, MI - Deitz House Moving Engineers, Inc. announces with deep sadness the passing of Richard Arnold Deitz on April 4, 2026, at the age of 94. Richard Deitz, the second generation leader of the family owned company founded in 1945 by his father, Walter Deitz, dedicated more than five decades of his life to advancing the specialized field of structural moving.

Under his leadership, Deitz House Moving Engineers became widely recognized for its precision, innovation and ability to execute complex structural relocation and foundation projects throughout Michigan and beyond.

“Richard’s life was defined by integrity, craftsmanship and an unwavering commitment to both his family and his work,” said Daniel Deitz, CEO of Deitz House Moving Engineers and son of Richard Deitz. “He believed deeply in doing things the right way, taking care of people, preserving history and never compromising on quality. His influence will continue to guide everything we do.”

Throughout his career, Richard played a significant role in shaping the structural moving industry. He served as President of the International Association of Structural Movers (IASM), helping to elevate standards, foster collaboration and promote innovation across the profession. His leadership extended beyond individual projects, contributing
to the advancement of best practices recognized across North America.

Richard also proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and the Naval Reserve. His service reflected the same dedication, discipline and sense of responsibility that defined both his professional life and his commitment to others.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard was known for his warmth, generosity and love of life. He enjoyed music, dancing, traveling, gardening and flying, holding a commercial pilot’s license. Above all, he was devoted to his family and shared a remarkable 74 year marriage with his beloved wife, Patricia.

CELEBRATING OUR 80TH 🎉

This year marks 80 years since my grandfather, Walter Deitz, moved his very first house with nothing but a 1936 International truck, a homemade trailer, and his incredible mechanical know-how. What began as one job has grown into an incredible legacy.

I want to take a moment to say a heartfelt Thank You:

To my father, Richard - who carried the company forward after Walter’s passing, expanded our capabilities, and dedicated nearly six decades to this industry. Your leadership, wisdom, and steady hand built the foundation we still stand on today.

To our Hardworking Crew - past and present, thank you for your skill, grit, and pride in your work. You are the reason we can safely move million pound buildings, protect historic treasures, and serve communities all over Michigan. Every successful project is a testament to your talent and teamwork.

To our Community, Customers, Partners, and Supporters - thank you for trusting us with your homes, businesses, and historic structures. Your appreciation, encouragement, and cheers from the sidewalks mean more than you know.

From the early days of wooden beams and mechanical screw jacks to today’s hydraulic dollies, CAD engineering, and real time communication, our mission has never changed: preserve what matters and do the job right.

Here’s to 80 years of ingenuity, family craftsmanship, and pushing the limits of what’s possible, and to many more years of strengthening, protecting, and preserving the buildings that tell our stories.

Thank you for being part of our journey.

- Daniel Deitz

We've been working on an exciting project in Grand Haven MI. We're replacing the foundation under an existing home atop an incredibly steep sand dune. Pictures do not fully capture it fully. We have been blessed to work with a great team of contractor and wonderful neighbors.

Today was a perfect day to haul beams to the top of one of the tallest dunes in Grand Haven, MI.
