🍉 FRESH WATERMELON 101: IT CAME FROM A FIELD, NOT A FACTORY! 🌱
When you buy a fresh watermelon, remember: it’s a living agricultural product with a shelf life. Once that melon is harvested from the vine, the clock starts ticking. ⏳
A few tips to protect your melon:
🍉 KEEP IT COOL: Store a whole watermelon in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Around 55–70°F is a good practical range when possible.
🍉 DON’T LEAVE IT IN A HOT VEHICLE: A truck bed, trunk, porch, or garage in South Carolina summer heat can shorten its quality FAST. ☀️🔥
🍉 DON’T WAIT FOREVER: For the best freshness and eating quality, plan to enjoy your whole field-fresh melon within roughly 1–2 weeks after purchase—sooner if you don’t know exactly when it was harvested or it has been exposed to heat.
🍉 ONCE YOU CUT IT: Cover or seal it and refrigerate at 40°F or below. Try to enjoy cut watermelon within about 3–5 days.
👀 Before cutting, check for unusual soft spots, leaking, cracking, mold, or a sour/off smell. When in doubt, don’t eat it.
🌱 Fresh produce doesn’t have an everlasting battery!
That’s part of buying food closer to the farm. You’re getting something that was grown, harvested and brought to you—not something designed to sit around forever.
Buy it fresh. Store it right. Cut it. Share it. ENJOY IT! 🍉🌱
