Safety starts with preparation. Naples Airport recently hosted Operation Wild Wings, a triennial tabletop exercise bringing together airport staff and 30 Collier County and City of Naples response partner organizations to strengthen coordination, review emergency procedures, and prepare for the unexpected.

Our commitment to safety and service reaches beyond the airport and into the community we proudly serve.

Yesterday, when a boater was found unconscious near Gordon Pass, our Security Operations Officer, Walter Largaespada, sprang into action. After calling 911, Walter relied on the training, composure, and instincts he developed during his service in the U.S. Navy to help in a critical moment.

We are incredibly proud to have team members like Walter who embody courage, leadership, and a commitment to helping others. His actions are a powerful reminder of the difference one person can make when they choose to step up.

A major milestone has been reached in the return of commercial air service to Naples Airport. ✈️

The Naples Airport Authority Board has approved an operating agreement with American Airlines, officially paving the way for the launch of twice-daily nonstop service between Naples and Charlotte beginning December 2.

The agreement establishes the framework for airline operations at Naples Airport, including terminal use, operating requirements, financial terms, and compliance with the airport's voluntary nighttime curfew.

American's service will operate from the newly renovated North Road Terminal and provide travelers with convenient one-stop access to nearly 180 destinations worldwide through Charlotte.

"Naples Airport Authority and American Airlines have completed negotiations that will restore commercial service to the airport for the first time since 2017. American has been a great partner through this process and all parties are looking forward to welcoming the first flights in December." - Chris Rozansky, Executive Director of the Naples Airport Authority.

This marks an exciting step forward for Naples Airport and the community, bringing additional travel options while supporting business and leisure connectivity.

For Captain Suzy Garrett, becoming a pilot meant entering a profession where women were still a rare sight in the cockpit. When she first joined SkyWest Airlines, she was among the airline’s first dozen female pilots. She even recalled hiding at airports because she didn’t want people to judge her for being a woman pilot.

But she kept flying. ✈️

More than 30 years later, Suzy reached a milestone that made her career even more special. In September 2019, she flew alongside her daughter, Donna Garrett, who served as first officer. Together, they became SkyWest’s first mother-daughter pilot team.

What began as a career in a male-dominated industry had come full circle. Suzy had spent decades helping open doors for women in aviation, and now she was sharing the cockpit with her own daughter. Their story is a reminder of how far aviation has come—and how the next generation can follow a path their parents helped make possible. ❤️✈️
